I just went back in for a follow-up. Asking her to turn up the speech frequencies one more notch.
She was concerned about it being too tinny.
After some discussion, I suppose mostly her gauging my level of desire for change and willingness to make tradeoffs…and a little re-hash of our earlier discussion about the merits and drawbacks to molds and specifically the slimtips… she put on some Griptips (which I gather are an Oticon thing). I don’t love the pressure, and it certainly is a different sound profile that my brain will have to get used to. I was sent home with these, so we’ll see if it helps with understanding my daughters and IF I my brain is willing to accept the new sound picture. She asked that I let her know next week.
I suppose that IF this helps, then my options will be to either
a) just keep these and move forward
b) to get the custom molds for slimtips ( the thinking there is that they’ll be a slicker finish and won’t have the outward pressure in my canals so they should, in theory, be more comfortable.
update: I ended up getting acrylic mold Slimtips. She’s calling them slimtips but they look like more compared to the images I’ve seen of a Slimtip
I suppose it’s a slimtip with a skeleton add-on.
Regardless, so far not so good. My aids started acting up about the time she put me in some generic slimtip-looking things, and it’s gotten worse (dropping in and out, and other weird imbalance things, that seem to be related to autosense getting confused or some such thing)
I think the programming isn’t set up quite right yet for these types of tips
I think, with the new, more occluded type you are more aware of working noise reduction and directionality, which may look like awkward. However, it may be also require some additional adjustments.
I’m starting to think that I don’t like the canal lock thing.
Clearly it helps hold the thing in and in position, but how well would it work without that thing?
I find it irritating, and especially so with any movement or positional changes (such as over the ear headphones, leaning gently against a pillow or something like that, etc.)
Today was my first day not wearing my aids in a very long time. I wore them for a short time this AM walking the dog before I got ready for work, but have left them out. My ear canals are bothered badly…well my left is only a little
It started with these simple generic tips the Audi put me in when the trial griptip tore. She didn’t have any more of those so she put on some generic garbage to use while we ordered these molded ones.
Anyway, hoping the rest will do them some good.
My Marvels were acting up so we sent them in yesterday, and she put my molds on a demo pair of Lumity’s for me to use. The marvels were muting up and down and acting wonky. I think autosense or some noise block is going haywire. These Demos are doing some similar things… not nearly as badly. I’m starting to wonder if there’s just some settings that need some attention as compared to the program that worked with the open domes…
BUT
I’m also thinking that maybe might right slimtip doesn’t have the receiver positioned correctly and maybe it’s poking into my ear canal. Or maybe it’s just swelling from the irritation. Ugh, it should be better than this!
anyway
Assuming they don’t end up looking to be badly positioned receivers
Pro’s and cons of cutting that canal lock off my acrylic molds?
and if you were going to cut them, how would you do it to get a smooth cut?
or would you just re-order?
