I went to see a movie the other day and I had a very hard time with what the actors were saying! I had to take out my hearing aids when the movie started because the back ground noise was so loud, but then I could not hear what was being said!
Well, there could be a couple things going on here. What make/model aids are you wearing?
First off: most of the movies nowadays have VERY loud and distracting soundtracks, with the actors talking too fast and even muttering. It’s like a strategy to force us to lean forward and WORK to comprehend what’s being said.
That said (if you can hear it), most aids now have programs that allow you to selectively reduce that noise: Speech in LOUD Noise (Phonak).
Some aids have telecoils that are compatible with teleloop systems in movie theatres that send the audio direct to your aids - like streaming.
Hopefully, you’ll get more input here from others. While some movies are thrilling in a theatre on the BIG SCREEN, I prefer to wait till they’re at AmazonPrime or someplace where I can watch them (and STREAM them to my TV Connector) right at home.
Thanks for your feed back,it has been years since I have gone to a movie theater,so the Elvis movie came out and just couldn’t wait to see it ha the aids I have are the Resound Jabra’s never been real happy with them, but ran out of time to return them,
A lot of theaters now supply headphones or closed captions. Try watching a cartoon with the kids in a theater. Hopeless
Next time please go to the customer service desk and get both the closed captioning decide and an (likely infrared) receiver and give them a try. If your hearing aids have a telecoil, get a neckloop also and plug it into the receiver. If you have a remote mic with a headphone jack, you can try plugging that into the receiver but will need a 3.5 mm male-to-male cable. Depending on your hearing, you may also like the standard headphones they provide with the receiver.
Keep in mind your speech comprehension scores will be a factor especially with telecoil
Thank you,I don’t go to the movies much, but,I will check in at the service desk next time I go to see what they can do for me,
You have 2 options in movie theaters. You can ask for an assisted listening system and/ or a captioning device. Hearing aid microphones only work for 3 to 5 feet so in a large area like a theater, auditorium, museum, you need additional assistance.
I have gone to the movie theater only twice since getting my More1 aids andi could hear great, I even had to lower the volume a notch. I have also been to Branson, MO to the Sight and Sound theater to see Jesus and ended up lower my hearing aid volume a notch. And in church services I end up lower the volume a notch for the choir singing but my normal volume for announcements and the sermon. I believe it is the fact that my audiologist has found the correct fitting for my needs.
Thank for your information, maybe I should talk with my Costco hearing guy to see what he can do,like I said I don’t go to the theater much,so it might not be a problem,
I wonder how the captioning would work on screen?
Sony makes a system that is fairly well adopted in theaters. You wear glasses that have the captions on them like a heads up display. They work so well that I started to gather a set for myself. Then COVID set in so I only have the receiver and charger so far (no glasses).
I have difficulty and have to strain in movie theaters too. I also have the more 1s now. I will use speech in noise. It’s brilliant. For Church? I use the More 1 “lecture” mode. I can program different sound programs in and out of my HAs using NoahLink Wireless. That’s about the extent of my programming ability and I’m happy with that.
I’m happy with the More 1s for helping me distinguish. Additionally, when I’m watching movies at home I also have trouble when the actors mumble. No more. I will only miss a word or two per entire movie with the More 1s.
Today I as in the (very loud) coffee shop. I put “Speech in Noise” on. I could hear all sorts of conversations around me. I felt like a spy!
I have the default program, t-coil program, MyMusic program, TV adapter. I haven’t used anything by my default program since my aids were updated to 1.3.0 firmware the first May. I have seen two movies and the Sight and Sound show since the update. I haven’t needed the other programs. I was at Cracker Barrel yesterday with no issues with noise and my wife and step son was complaining about the noise. I can even ride my Vespa and drive with the windows down with no noise and wind issues. I know some of it is that I have made myself tolerate the noise in the past, i some times have to double check my aids to ensure they are on and working. My audiologist must have the noise reduction set to max.
What is the 1.3.0 firmware?
It is the latest firmware for More hearing aids, it did some improvement to the AI and connectivity along with semi hands free for iPhone phone calls. There also seems to be some stability improvements too.
Who sells More hearing aids?
Oticon is the manufacturer,
I don’t think Costco sell Oticon,
No Costco does have Philip aids made by the parent company
