Hearing aid domes for small ear canals

I’ve been wearing my Starkey Genesis AI 24 mRIC hearing aids since December 2024. I still struggle with the dome on my right hearing aid. My right ear has a small canal, and I’m currently using the #5 dome. I’ve been told this is the smallest they go. This is also the ear that struggles the most with itchiness, which I suspect may be because the dome is still slightly too large for the canal.

Are there any options for smaller than the #5 dome?

Have you considered an earmolds?

I thought I remembered hearing that earmolds weren’t good for small ear canals? Or maybe that they were less successful?

Depends on receiver size. For you, an S (small) receiver is probably enough; a more powerful M (Medium) is almost the same size, at least in the case of Phonak Audeo. I don’t know about Starkey’s.

If the receiver with dome fits in your ear canal, the earmold will probably fit too - I would recommend titanium, because it can have thinner walls.

Maybe I am wrong; then it is worth considering the BTE form factor, with the receiver in the hearing aid housing.
