I am interested in the sennheiser aids from Costco. I was discouraged because audi does not believe they work well in the speech in noise program. Also high sounds are more tinny than other brands. I am wondering what your experience is.
Well Iād take that advice with a pinch of salt please, no itās simply not true, the sennheiser is just a rebranded Phonak Lumity model, which a lot people use and like.
I had the Phonak Lumity 90 which is almost exactly like the Sennheiser and I agree that they do not do well with speech in noise.
Thanks Raylock 1. Anyone else out there using the Sennheiser from Costco that can comment on speech in noise function?
Thanks Tenkan. Currently using Phillips 9050. Good but not totally sold. One thing i do like is that i do much better with speech in noise than with oticon intent. Would hate to lose that but i know lots of people love phonak.
@PMJ Can you elaborate on this? While the Philips 9050 and the Otcion Intent use the same hardware, it is generally believed that while the firmware in the Philips 9050 is similar to the Oticon Intent in some ways, that it has been degraded by Demant. I have not seen a direct comparison of the 9050 and the Intent before.
I can just tell you my experience for what it is worth. I thought the Oticon intent was clearer with speech but terrible for me in noisy situations. I believed I was not in noisy situations at the beginning but in reality, I was. I was a new user at that time so might feel differently now. This audiologist suggested I might do better with Phonak which they did not sell. I decided to give the Phillips a try because of the price difference and they are pretty good overall for me but still not perfectly clear in high tones . Audiologist says I expect too much; everyone hates their hearing aids. But I know people who do like their aids. I have an 84 per cent word recognition with Phillips. Keep thinking about Phonaks or Sennheiser which are now at Costco but audiologist there says they are worse in noisy situations and high tones. Case of giving up good chasing best?
The Phonak Spheres are much better than the Lumity 90 (Sennheiser Sonite R) in loud noise, in my experience. If you decide to try them and if you are in the US I would check out the ZipHearing website for prices that are better than you get from a local audiologist but are fitted and adjusted by a local audiologist (but more expensive that Costco).
You may just like the directional approach of the Phillips better than Oticonās āopenā approach.
We are definitely out here. I loved my KS9s and am already fond of my Lumitys.
I have a hard tim expecting the Sennheisers to be better than the 9050s, since theyāre older technology. Itās worth trying, but I wouldnāt have high expectations, since my experience has been that buying new HAs every 3 years has gotten me upgraded performance in all areas that I notice.
IMO, the way one views oneās HAs depends more on expectations than on performance. Iām fine with my Jabra Pro 10s. I donāt hear well in noise, but I didnāt expect to. I hoped theyād be good for music from my hifi, and theyāre not, but I hoped, not expected. Someone with higher expectations will probably have a lower opinion of their HAs.
Thank you for confirming this opinion Ellen.
I think you are right about expectations. Still, i hate to settle for something that is just so so but i may need to do that.
Assisted hearing is all about hearing better in your lifestyle. Everyone has different lifestyles and everyoneās hearing is different. Itās challenging to get all that right. As philbob said, expectations play a big part.
These Sennheiser aids could well do better than the Phillips for some but not others. Itās personal and the fitter plays a huge part in this. We have to help the fitter do the best they can.
I am looking forward to those with Sonite R experience.
Thank you so much for the input. Yes, the more I learn about hearing loss the more i realize how differently everyone hears and how much the art of fitting plays into how well we like our aids. I am looking forward to to input from those who wear Sennheiser.
I ordered my Sennheiser Sonite R aids about an hour ago and just got home. I really like the sound and I understand that they are actually functional with android phones. Iāll go in for my fitting on May 30. I also send my KS 10ās in for out of warranty repair to keep as back-ups. I am also getting a free TV streamer which my wife is happy about. I went in for my appointment late this afternoon and was surprised to see the Sennheisers on display. This morning they were still not showing on my COSTCOās website.
Thanks. Very tempting offer.
Went from KS9 to Rexton Reach. Reach is better in speech in noise. Reach doesnāt play nice with Android phones though. Got the Sennheiser Sonite. Sonite is better than KS9 at speechin noise, but not a lot better. Iām willing to sacrifice Speech in noise features over Bluetooth compatibility most of the time. I still have the Reach set so if Iām going somewhere like a wedding where I wonāt be interacting with my phone I can wear them, otherwise Iāll suffer through with the Sonites.
Iām new to using hearing aids. I just picked up my Sennheiser Sonite R hearing aids earlier this week. Over the past couple of days, Iāve noticed a strong static sound in both ears coming from the HAs. Iāve tried playing with the app to stop the sound and repositioning them in my ear does nothing to help the noise. The static gets worse each time the air conditioner turns on and then lowers in strength when the AC turns off. Iād like to add that when I had my first Costco appointment, the Specialist fit me with an open ear setup, which worked well. When I came in for the second appointment, she said I need an in-the ear-canal dome based on my hearing results. I found this odd since she already knew my hearing results during that first meeting. I have another appointment set up so Iāll see what she can do or maybe change the dome. So far, Iām not impressed with these aids, or maybe itās the Specialist I should be unimpressed by. I hope others are having better luck with their Sennheiser Sonite R aids.
G84, would you post your audiogram. Select your green G at the top, then the profile (person icon) and then profile again or if it appears My Audiogram and post the numbers from your audiogram. I wore Phonak Lumity 90ās in the past which are the same or almost the same as the Sennheiser Sonite R. They are excellent hearing aids. If the HAS is new at Costco, he/she may not be fully comfortable with the Sennheiser fitting software. There are many adjustments that the hearing aid specialist can make to solve this issue. If necessary, you might ask for a different specialist at your Costco or you could go to a different Costco if you have one nearby. This issue should easily be fixed by the HAS.
