Patiently waiting for my hearing aids to come back and just wanted to ask if anyone has ever used pvc hearing aid tube roll instead of pre bent tubing? Only asking as I just cannot get the hearing aid tube to sit right, it just feels too rigid and not flexible. I feel that hearing aid tubing roll will allow more flexibility. If anyone has any experience with this, I would love to know. Thank you
Well, I may not know exactly what you mean here by “pvc hearing aid tube roll vs pre-bent tubing” but I can tell you right out: if you are looking at ear wires (which are wrapped in a plastic tube, albeit snug, so they’re not as thick as a toothpick) those WIRES will NOT BEND. No amount of heating, using pliers, pinching them into a new shape, taping them in place - nothing will change the inherent curve of the wire. So if it’s the wrong length for your ear, it will always look like a goofy loop sticking out from your head.
There’s simply no aesthetically pleasing look to the thingy that connects BTE unit to speaker/receiver in the ear. You either LUCK OUT, or LOOK GOOFY.
I use the straight tube, to get the tube long enough so the BTE falls behind the ear, and not fall off the ear.
I’ve found the straight tube does eventually bend to up the shape required. I get new tubes put in on my annual visit to my AuD that is if they don’t split before then.
One of the things with hearing aid tubing is, in my experience, is that it works best when it is soft and flexible. The tubing hardens with age, My former aid specialist recommended getting fresh tubing every 6 months, I would have him clean out the wax at the same visit. I have moved to another city. I changed my own tube the other day after too long a period and noticed the old tubing was quite stiff - much more than the new tubing. I had also bought some from Amazon and found it worked as well as some I got from my service shop.
