Does this exist? Like a CROS but with amplification in the bad ear also

I’m wondering if such a thing exists - I’ve got fairly bad hearing in my left ear and normal hearing in my right. My issue is that my word recognition is pretty terrible in my left ear. I have a lot of trouble understanding speech even in normal situations and it’s near impossible in noisy environments.

I like the sound quality of my widex evoke, but I still struggle to understand speech. What I’m wondering is if there is an aid that will still amplify in my left ear but also route some signal over to my right ear so that perhaps it can do the job of helping out with my speech understanding. My HA is programmed to my prescription and she’s tested it with REM.

It seems like CROS setups are really designed for SSD. A while back I read this article The CROS Hearing Aid: Ends and Beginnings | Canadian Audiologist that mentions that many regular HAs can be programmed to work as CROS devices. My audi said she thought that would only work in a “phone” setting and would also cut off amplification in the bad ear.

Can anyone help out or suggest an alternative? Thanks!

I have the same problem only in reverse order. I have Phonak Brios and they do amplify my right aid and send the sound from the right to the left aid. Due to auditory deprivation of the right ear, it took time for for the word discrimination to improve in my right ear. However, over time it did improve. Good luck.

The answer to your question is “Yes”. There is Wireless DSP
System for Hearing Aids with Binaural Synchronization.
The binaural synchronization feature
allows two hearing aids to wirelessly synchronize adjustments such as
program modes or volume control.
Also there is binaural telecoil wirelessly streams telecoil
audio signals from one hearing aid to the other. This enables hearing
aid users to hear phone calls in both ears, improving speech
intelligibility,and other…

Please can you provide names of hearing aids with this functionality. Thanks.

My Signia BiCros aids only amplify at same level in bad ear, as the sounds sent to my fully functioning good ear Only a few decibels, when I need 70db+ ! Feel enough noise in bad ear supports and maybe improves overall comprehension, even if can’t actually comprend the individual words in bad year.

Regarding the names of hearing aids with such functionalities, you should ask your audiologist.A year ago I was developing hearing aids with binaural synchronization using DSP AYRE SA3291 from ON Semiconductor.
Unfortunately, I do not know the trade names of the models that have these options.

I would ask your audi to try to configure an AmpCROS for your hearing aids by adding a “Phone+” program. You’ll need 330 level or higher technology for this to work. Your audi will need to use REM to shape the frequency response of this new program as its defaults will not conform to your targets. She’ll need to reduce the Bad Ear Gain by 50% or more until you no longer perceive distortion in your bad ear. Hope this helps.
