Does Humidity Cause You Trouble?

Hello,

For the last year or so, I’ve been moving between Cairo, Luxor and Safaga.
I found out that I got a lot of trouble with the ears (usually ear infections) whenever I was in Safaga, a wonderful small city on the Red Sea but with high humidity.

The only reason that can explain my frequent infections is humidity.

Is there someone here who lives in a high-humid place? What do you do to protect your ear or at least to decrease the times of getting infections? I love Safaga and my plan is to stay as long as possible here but with the ear troubles, I’m having second thoughts.
Please share your thoughts on this topic with me!

Infections are caused by bacteria. Perhaps the humidity causes bacteria to survive on different surfaces you touch and then touch your ears. That is the most common mechanism for infection. Rinsing out your ears with an ear syringe daily then drying inside will do a lot to reduce the infections. Make sure the water you rinse your ears with is not contaminated.

You mean middle ear infections or outer ear?

I put a mix of alcohol and vinegar in my ears daily. The vinegar changes the PH inside the canal so bacteria is less likely. The alcohol aidsvin drying. I use a hair dryer for 30 seconds to finish drying. I live in Florida with high humidity

How do you do it? What percent of vinegar and alcohol?

I think it is worthwhile to write more precisely, because inappropriate use of these ingredients and getting too high a concentration may cause severe injury…

50/50. I use a dropper

That makes sense!

I have no idea! There’s a liquid coming out of my ear and now it’s blocked!

What kinds of alcohol and vinegar do you use?

Did it need to be explained by your ENT doctor? These are different cases, and each of them requires a bit different approach. After all, recurrent ear infections should be diagnosed. There is many causes potentially treatable, perhabs Eustachian tube occlusion?

I will go to an ENT but I’ve to wait until next Thursday when I’m in Cairo. No good medical service in Safaga.
Today, my ear keeps blocked and unblocked and I already feel dizzy! I hope this will come to an end soon!
Thanks for your comments!

Great to know! Another question - have you ever had performed chest X-ray? Any abnormalities on it, like right placed heart, etc.?

No, not as far as I remember! I believe I should check whether I have any problems with my chest as my sister and her children have allergies!

I rather thought about occasional X-rays performed in the past than doing it now deliberately. I don’t know about the rules in your healthcare system, but occupational medicine doctors quite often check that before job applications. Family physicians (general practitioners) also sometimes order it with more severe infection including lungs.
