Technically, it looks like a simple thing to implement with huge benefits. I guess I’m wondering what’s the hold up? Unless there are genuine limitations with the XMEMS speakers that make them unsuitable.
Since the news appeared here on Hearing Tracker, I have been trying to learn more about this technology and I honestly had hopes for the new Phonak HAs, but that was not the case.
From what I have read, Xmems should be used with OTC HAs and therefore self-adjusting. They should also have an excellent frequency range with enough gain to be suitable even for severe/profound losses like mine. All this combined with a more affordable price compared to the current prescription HAs.
Now I wonder, is all this pure utopia? Will the lobbies of HA manufacturers and audiologists/hearing aid specialists ever allow it?
As I know, XMEMS consumes too much electricity, so it (maybe) cannot work with newest processors in hearing aids.
They could make a box like the one in Whisper
… or as one in Apple Vision
