The ENT advised me against swimming (or learning to swim, to be specific) as I often get ear infections, or to block my ear if I don’t follow his advice and get into the water.
(I still get ear infections in any case even when I keep my ears away from water so I don’t follow his advice :DDD)
Did you get the vaccine against pneumococcus? It is not a guarantee, but it may be helpful if you have frequent bacterial otitis media. PCV is more recommended, especially PCV - better is this which covers more types of bacteria:
The effectiveness in adults in preventing recurrent otitis media is less well-evidenced because children are the main group studied. However, if it is practically harmless compared to the above disease, it is worth considering.
