Different domes in each ear - common?

Hello! I’m going back to the audi next week, so wanted to get smart here beforehand.

He initially gave me

  • double/power dome on my right side, and
  • vented closed on the left side

When he first fit the HAs, I said that I didn’t really like the power dome (originally sized S) and that it felt too “clogged”. So we tried the XS, but it was way too small. So I left with the S.

I hate my power dome because it’s quite occlusive; I feel I constantly have to push it in to get rid of the clogging effect. I suspect it’s also made worse by the contrast with my right side dome, which feels fine.

Will HA wearers with different hearing loss levels always have different domes on each side? Part of me thinks that if I just wore the power dome on the left side too, it’d feel less annoying overall. But I’ve been leaning towards pushing to get the vented dome on the right side too, at the risk of slightly underamplified targets.

Lastly - do custom molds usually have return windows?

Are you at a private Audi or Costco? I ask because I know Costco molds are returnable within 6 months. I suspect private Audis would vary each one.

I had that type of setup briefly and just didn’t like it. Was a personal preference. I’m in molds now and love them. Sure I really don’t need them with my loss, but they are far more comfortable to me.

Private audi. Will ask about return policy on molds!

I find the different domes very disorienting… especially when one is occlusive…

Hated power domes. Molds are much more comfortable. I would always recommend molds now but I knoe everyone’s preferences, hearing loss and comfort is different.

When i had domes, used 2 different kinds.

You have different domes due to your Asymmetry.

Ask to have more similar domes fitted and see what the aids sound like if you don’t like the current level of occlusion.
