Dani's trip to his CI

Just WOW! Dani, I’m very happy for you, even for our OCD symmetrical German friend :crazy_face:. These next few weeks will fly buy quickly for you.
I’m rather jealous all you guys heading off to go bilateral, as it won’t be happening to me anytime soon.

im very happy for you , until now you use HA ? so you have APR with HA and without. because i think when you have with HA above 50 DB then You are not a candidate for a cochlear implant ؟ it’s true

Do you have information on the size difference between rondo 3 and kanso 2 ?

Don’t know what APR means.

My speech recognition score with my HA only is at 30-40%. But my main issue is that I must be able to hear the direction from where a sound is coming from because of my very bad vision. Being bemodal I don’t have the chance to achieve this.

Don’t know anything about the difference in size and weight of Kanso 2 and Rondo 3. Technically they are comparable, but of course not exchangeable due to being from different manufacturers.

please see the attached that mean ABR ? my audi says ABR if not true so what it name ?

look i have 2 , one with HA and another without HA , if u have with HA Can I see that and provide us with it .

I believe ABR is Auditory Brainstem Response.

I’m not sure if anyone here got ABR tested and know it. I got refused further testing beside WRS. They didn’t even do WRS in noise when I went to figure out what exactly is wrong, and they discarded my distortion with ‘you understand speech, so therefore your nerve isn’t damaged’. I can’t say I’m buying that explanation since I’ve found that nerve damage creates distortion, but I was denied detailed tests.

Anyway, they said to me that when WRS is below 50 you’re candidate for CI implant. And then you’ll get more tests.

ABR is measured to detect if even CI would help you or only brain stem implant, if I remember correctly. Like, if they suspect that nerve is damaged, then CI wouldn’t help anyway since it depends on nerve to send signal from the cochlea to the brain. Brainstem is along the pathway and there’s an implant for that, but afaik, it doesn’t bring comprehension like CI does.

ABR should be done with something like EEG apparatus, HAs aren’t involved there.

So if I’m connecting the dots here correctly, your WRS is non existing with headphones, and your ABR is this second graph.

Next question is when you say

Do you mean that you need more than 50 db, so 60, 70 and so, or you mean above 50db line on the graph.

By logic so far I’ve seen, and let’s assume your 50db is the threshold they use, I’d say it means - if your brainstem needs more than 50 db of power, that’s something what CI can’t deliver so CI isn’t solution.

That could be that.

So, to be CI candidate you have to have wrs smaller than 50 and abr smaller than 50. Assuming your numbers are correct, I really haven’t dig too deep into brainstem implants eg digging when CI isn’t enough.

However, brainstem testing doesn’t have anything with HAs anymore, from what I’ve gathered so far.

Yes , when u have above 50 db to be CI candidate you have to . This is what you think of many . But some are candidates for transplantation if they do not benefit from HA

Please remember, this is Dani’s trip to his CI(s)

@Dani can you delete unwanted/ not related to your journey posts?

@rasmus_braun can you please move out things not related to dani’s CI journey into separate thread? Thanks

@Dani hi bro

What is the difference between Audilink and Artone 3 max ?

Can they both connect to any device that has Bluetooth service?

Reagrds ,

Artone 3 max can connect to any Bluetooth capable device. Transmission between Artone and Med-EL CI is by T-coil, i.e. quality is bad.
AudioLink can connect to bluetooth devices that uses Head-Set-Profile/Hands-Free-Profile (HSP/HFP). On the smartphone you need Medel’s App to stream music or other media-audio-source other than HSP or HFP.

And again for you: Please create a new thread for specific questions that don’t belong to my trip.

ok bro soory for it .

@Dani I’m hearing a whisper that your having your second CI done today… All the very best to you…
Good Luck as you start your journey again…:four_leaf_clover::four_leaf_clover::four_leaf_clover:

Yes Dani, all the best to you.
Let us know how you are doing.

Hey thank you @Deaf_piper and @Raudrive . I had my surgery in the early afternoon here in Germany. It went all well. The electrode array is there where it should be. I am feeling fine. There is nothing that really hurts. Facial nerves are ok. Taste and smell is there. I am happy with my surgeon.
