Costco Kirkland Signature 6.0

That’s strange because with my iPhone 6 if I am playing music it plays in my hearing aids and not through the speakers.

If Costco cannot adjust properly so don’t have to wear hearing aids half way in my ears going to connect hearing, if you have triple A you will get 40% off hearing aids at connect hearing, plus 3 years supply of batteries. Just wondering how much hearing aids cost at connect hearing. They also have the price match

Went to Costco today to get an appt (will be next Thurs). I was hoping to get the Signature 6.0, but upon looking at their displays, was very disappointed as it looks like all the Kirklands are behind the ear. I’ve tried the behind the ear before on other brands and just can’t wear them with my glasses. Has to be in the ear. Am I incorrect or does Kirkland have in-the-ear ones?

Talked with Costco today, have appointment monday for the Kirkland 6.0. They came out a few weeks ago, there is already the Apple APP to control them in the Itunes store. My 90 Days with the Rextons was up next tuesday so I made it under the wire for the 6’s.

Only had these KS6’s two days. Way better than the KS5’s I returned during the 90 day trial. No more chirping. Have been playing with the programs. P1 is Basic “all around with binaural directionality”, P2 is Restaurant, P3 is phone (was told that the KS6 has telecoil so it is the later version of ReSound Linx1), P4 is “all around but set up with soft switching”. I love that I can set up a favorite with one of the programs, customized volume and bass and treble and give it a custom label. I did this for watching tv and at my local restaurant. Then when you go back to that location, the app automatically switches to your settings. Yes the Kirkland is BTE as standard but can be modified to a BTE with an ear mold if you need a mold instead of the receiver in the ear. As to too loud volume, the Costco fitter should be able to lower the volume in the software. I had this done for the KS5.

next I will play with the iPhone streaming. When I slide up the screen to open the control panel, I see it shows my hearing aids so I should have streaming but don’t. I must be doing something wrong or there is a setting I am not familiar with.

Have you gone into the setting under General, Accessibilty, Hearing, Hearing Aids. Once you set it up you can bring up the mini-program with three quick taps on the home button.

Hi LouisInTexas:

Yes, everything seems to indicate my hearing aids. Even in General —Accessibility——Hearing Aids— I have it turned on to stream to hearing aids.
I can get the left one to work. The right one works not as to streaming but the mics hear the surroundings. This is not actually a bad thing. I believe it is a setting in the software. I may also change the "phone’ program to the music program and see if both hearing aids stream then. My next visit is May 14 for any tweaking.

There’s no setting in the software that enables or disables streaming; it’s totally controlled by your Apple device. Try selecting the “Disconnect this device” option, turn Bluetooth off and on, and then re-pair the hearing aids. If this doesn’t fix the issue, disconnect the devices and then do a “Reset Network Settings”. Re-pair the hearing aids, but wait 2 minutes for the procedure to fully complete before doing any streaming.

They should but they don’t like fitting them. BTE/RIC’s are instant fit/same day, quick sale type devices that they prefer to work with.

Not to mention, they are probably the perfect choice for the majority of their customers.

Thanks, that is very good to know. I’ll give the over the ear a try tomorrow, maybe they can figure out something for someone who wears glasses (and has a crooked nose that keeps the glasses from truly fitting correctly). If they can’t, maybe they can figure out an in-the -ear for me.

I beg to differ. I have seen more people who were fit with RIC’s who were outside the desired fitting range when I test them. There comes a point in time when if you make it “too easy”, people get lazy.

Agreed. The majority of people I see would be fine in an RIC, however I still fit about probably 35% in ITE or BTE with earmolds.

I know some people fit only RICs. No matter what. I find that odd when someone comes in with a flat loss at 60 in an open fitting.

It’s because they got taken for a ride because someone had stock on their shelves and they wanted to make a quick sale by impressing them with a same day fit. I have had moderate-to-severe losses walk in open fit from Sam’s. I have had severe losses with tulip domes come in from costco. You will generally never see things like that from an ENT or hospital audiology department. Surely you won’t from a university clinic. I have actually had someone come in from Costco with earmold impression material bored out to fit a receiver into the mold. The woman was walking around with pink impression molds as her actual earmolds. If you took the EMI why not send them in to have proper earmolds made?? Why the hell are you half assing it? Cost?

Back to streaming to only one ear. To fix this, go to the hearing aid screen in settings, general and accessibility. Click on Hearing Aids, then click on the line for your hearing aids. It will be in blue if you are paired. Make sure that you have both stream to right and left hearing aid turned on. Adjust independently controls settings for volume and tone controls.

The iPhone 4 will only stream to one aid. You are supposed to be able to choose which aid gets the stream. This is a phone limitation.

So, you can either use a more closed type of dome or custom tips. I think you are conflating RICs with open fit. RICs can be fit with custom molded ear tips.

From my limited personal experience, I would agree that lazy people are using open fit for a quick sale.
I am checking out Costco this weekend. We’ll see what they recommend for me. I currently have open fit RIC, but I believe that s not the proper solution for my loss.

For me… The only negative about my open fit Behind the Ear with the non-custom dome is: They are easier to lose. Twice I’ve been outside in that garden, or on a long drive at a remote gas station, I take off my pull-over sweatshirt and I’m unaware that I just dropped a $1K device in the dirt, and walk away. If I wear ear mold with behind the ears I will never lose them… but I dislike the bloated feeling in my head. Plus, my audio-gram does not warrant the switch.

I have an iPhone 5. Maybe that has the same limitation as the 4. KS6 states it is compatible starting with iPhone 5. I don’t remember it saying the 4 is compatible. I will try to “forget this device” and hard reset as suggested by Rasmus but I hate to try this as everything else is working fine.

Ps: I got a low battery warning notification on the left HA. As an experiment, I decided to wait to see how long I could go until battery was near dead. I went an additional 6 hours. This was after 6 days. So I’m happy with the 312 battery. Note that I did not do iPhone streaming though.

Larry, While you performed this experiment, were you constantly re-notified of the low battery? I get my new K6s tomorrow, after wearing a pair of failing Starkey BTEs which are dead now. But for many months these would incorrectly tell me “dead battery” when the batteries were only a few minutes old. Finally the right ear just dropped with no power. I would hate if a problem like this follows me to my new K6’s.
