Costco Kirkland Signature 6.0

I have no experience with the Quintra’s but I have been wearing HA’s for 40 years and can tell you the KS6 is a solid product. I have been wearing the KS6’s for almost 2 months and have had zero issues. I also use the iphone app and remote mic all the time and have had zero issues with those. Give them a 90 day try and let us know how they compare to your Quintra’s.

HI, New here.

I ordered the trax 42 but think I should have ordered the 6.0. My fitting is june 7 so I can still change my mind, I think.

The lady I worked with at Costco said the trax were Bluetooth already and I would not need any additional hardware but I since found out I need a $275 accessory. She was mistaken.

The primary reason I wanted the trax was because of the rechargeable batteries and Bluetooth with an app. I did not want to haul around a remote but now I would need to manage the extra Bluetooth adaptor. Just one more thing to lose.

I never realized batteries were so cheap so I don’t mind replacing every 4 or 5 days in the 6.0.

I have moderate to severe high frequency loss. Had hearing aids many years ago but they were useless as they just amplified everything.

With the Bluetooth adaptor, the trax are approx. $1300 more than the 6.0.

Is there a reason I would go with the trax over the 6.0?

I have another apt on Friday just to discuss equipement options. Quite honestly the gal I dealt with never seemed to have much product knowledge at all.

Some people have mentioned demos. Does Costco have equipment for demo? I was never offered that choice.

Thanks

Another 6.0 question.

I have an IPhone 4s. Eventually I’ll upgrade but in the interim, can I use the 4s to adjust settings on the 6.0s?

I saw somewhere on this thread that a person was using the 4s but it would only stream to one ear. That’s fine with me for now.

I can upgrade but have been avoiding it as I shut my Canadian data plan off for five months a year but can’t so that if I upgrade as I’m locked into a monthly data contract.

Thanks

The I4’s aren’t supported due to OS upgrades that it can’t have. How about picking up an I5 on ebay and switching the phone to it. They go from about for I5’s $150 to $200 for the I5s.

No, the Choice app won’t run on iPhone 4S at all. And even if you manage to pair one or both hearing aids, streaming is inconsistent.

Thanks Chiroman, that does give me a place to start. Maybe I can get the fitter to give me a screen shot when my broke unit comes back.

I talked with support and the 4s will work with navigator software and the phone clip+. Not that big a deal to me because I can upgrade if it came down to it (but would rather not).

I will check eBay for a compatible 5s anyway.

Will get a much clearer picture on Friday. Honestly, our Costco reps don’t see, to have much product knowledge but I think the ks6 and trax are brand new to them in Canada.

I don’t have an iPhone, but I do have an iPad Air 2. Can I use that to change settings on the Signature V6.0? Would this even be helpful? How could Bluetooth connectivity help me if I don’t use an iPhone? Hmmm.

I might still try these for 90 days and compare to my Quintra’s.

Have been lurking here, got the Signature 6s and here is my report:

Bluetooth is fine, no issues at all. They connect quickly and stay connected. This with an iPhone 5s.

One aid went dead. I traced it to a tiny speck of gunk in the wax guard. Cleaned that out and all is well. Amazing that an almost invisible speck could shut it down completely. Try this first if there is a loss of volume or no sound.

Once there seemed to be a breakdown in the ability of one aid to connect to the other, but that went away and all is fine now at least.

Batteries last about four days, but I do not stream or talk on the phone all that much.

Streaming music is only fair with the tiny speakers, not nearly as good as ear buds. Phone conversations though are far better for me now.

For my hearing loss, cookie cutter and not really profound, they work well. I hear people, TV shows, music, etc all better. I didn’t realize there were so many birds!

Price is right. Sure beats the $8K quoted for conventional aids elsewhere! They also assured me that hearing aids for Apple was a myth and to buy theirs now…The Costco exam was better.

An Apple watch makes a lot more sense to me now when there is an app for these aids.

Carl, get the audio to give you a supply of wax guards and domes. You might have them add a music program choice which should improve that a bit. I use Duracell batteries and get 6 days with little streaming.

but do the Duracells cost more …effectively making any savings a wash? Granted, it would be nice to not have to change the batteries as often. I get about 7 days in my Quintra’s (uses the 312 batts). But no streaming.

I tried some Duracell Activair batteries in my KS6s, and three out of the first four would not hold streaming right from the start. A couple of minutes after starting streaming with a brand new battery, I’d get a low battery tone, followed almost immediately by that aid reverting to program 1. Very disappointing, as I like the long tabs on the Duracells.

you obviously got a pack of duds… it happens. return them for a fresh pack.

I followed suggestions from this forum and visited Costco. I picked up a pair of KS6s last Wednesday. They are my first hearing aids so I don’t have a basis for comparison.

So far, I like them. They are not uncomfortable or bothersome to wear. I am hearing sounds that I haven’t heard in years. In fact, after picking up the HAs, I picked up my daughter for lunch and she picked a noisy restaurant. I was able to hear her clearly. In the past, that environment had been somewhere between challenging and impossible.

I had an issue with streaming audio from my phone, intermittent dropping of one or both aids. I followed a suggestion in another thread and changed the phone from 2.4G to 5G. The problem seems to have gone away.

All in all, they exceed my (admittedly low) expectations.

How are the KS6’s with feedback noise when using a telephone? I have an appointment at the hearing aid center of my local costco next week.

So grateful to have found this forum

I would say I miss about 20% of conversations if I am not face to face 2 feet away from the person and see their lips.

I just tried out hearing aids for the first time in Feb Linx 9 and LOVED them (only miss about 4% of conversation) but they were $5800 so I asked if I could try the least expensive model that would pair with my iPhone 6+. Tried the LInx2 5 for $3,000 and like them (I miss about 8-10% of conversation).

Spoke with my Audi after the tab on the door of my LInx2 5 broke and said there is a high probability that I will not keep these because I cannot afford them. She gave me the story of buying 4 vacuums before finally paying the $ and getting a Dyson. I googled searched yesterday for less expensive hearing aids and found an article about Costco and found this article: The Hunt for an Affordable Hearing Aid - The New York Times which lead me on the HUNT for the Costco 6.0 (single mom, insurance has no HA coverage (Mass Obamacare), two teens one who will be driving soon and going to college next year!!)

Called Costco for a comparison of which Linx model the 6.0 is closest to and “due to contractual obligations” they cannot tell me. The second store I called gave me this website: k6userportal.com which I found helpful but doesn’t answer my question:

Has anyone compared a side-by-side comparison of what the 6.0 most closely relates to. Is it closest to (or a rebranded version of) the Linx 9, Linx 7 or Linx2 9? What specifically are the differences?

I have an appointment with the Audi at Costco on Friday! I am SO excited! I HOPE that the 6.0 is close to the Linx 9 I tried. The only thing I didn’t like about the Linx 9 was there was no way to adjust the volume On the actual hearing aid. (NOTE: I rarely had to switch between programs because the Linx 9 adjusted the program for me whereas the Linx 5 I have to switch between programs myself)

Thank you all for your posts and help!
Blessings,
Naomi <><

I have no problem with feedback using the phone. From what I understand, feedback issues are greatly affected by the dome used. I am using tulip domes.

I hold the phone several inches from my heard but I have double domes. Probably a bit more amplification but not a bug difference. No feedback being encountered. If you like the tulips and talk a lot on the phone, you might go with the double dome in just that ear. I am surprised the audi didn’t start you with the double. Maybe she thought you’d have hard to fit canals.

According to all reports the Kirkland 6 from Costco = ReSound Linx 9. Note that the differences between the Linx 9 and the Linx2 9 are reported to be minimal.

Naomi, the only feature known to have been removed is the tinnitus feature. That feature adds white noise or nature sounds to the aid. There are apps that can stream that with a cost in battery life. It is a feature that helps some and not others. I have that on a clock radio and can use it without the battery loss when I wish.
