Can Rexton hearing aids use another manufacturer's domes?

I recently bought one of Costco’s Rexton brand RIC HA’s. However, the “click dome” plastic is not soft. Are there alternative domes that can be used instead? Also, the receiver rubs a sore spot in my ear canal. Can the ear wire be shaped to a different angle? Thanks.

Pretty sure you’re limited to Rexton/Signia Click domes and sleeves. I really liked the sleeves, but their domes were also ok. I expect you may just need to try different sizes and styles. Once you’ve got a sore spot, it’s likely best to give it a rest if possible. Yes, receiver wires can be bent. Also, depending on your loss, you might be able to get by with a smaller receiver.

You are really knowledgeable. Can I bend the ear wires at home?
And I do have the 6mm closed dome. It hurts. I’m going to attempt to take off the dome with my hands- they are impossible to get off- unless you know the trick, and try to take off the little plastic tail/retention piece.

Are the sleeves softer?

I think the wires are easier to bend if heated. The Costco I go to has a way to heat them up. I think they share it with their eyeglass department. The click domes/sleeves are really secure. I’d invert the dome and then try to get fingernails around the little white plastic piece that clicks into place. Rexton makes a little v shaped guide that will slip underneath and makes it easier to pop off. I don’t think the sleeves are any softer than the domes, but they seem soft to me. The white plastic piece inside is hard so you don’t want to shove them too far into your ear. 6mm is pretty small. Do you know what receiver you’re using. How severe a loss do you have? First hearing aids or experienced user?

Thanks. I just bought the HA’s yesterday and my ear canals are already on-fire-sore, they feel like they are on the verge of developing a blister. That is another issue: I’m using the S receiver, even though I know it is inadequate for my flat 65db loss- but comfort matters more. I’m concerned the M size will be too big, and hurt exponentially…

I wore the 12yo Oticon Deltas which had VERY tiny hard molds, but these deteriorated and I ended up using a double dome that I cut the top portion of into petals, and they were pretty comfortable. I realized the technology in these Oticons was very outdated.

I cannot return these Rextons. I’ve already returned HA’s in the past- 2-3 years ago, (last time I tried to upgrade my Oticons) and the Costco techs are very reluctant to work with me. Otherwise I could’ve gone to my private audiologist friend, but spend 3x’s the $- now I truly regret trying to save money…

I think you’re going to need to give your ear canal (or is it both of them)? a rest. I think this is a solvable problem, but will likely take some work. If you truly regret the purchase and only bought them yesterday, you can take them back. They might not like it, but you can do it.

Hi. What do you know about Signia Click Sleeves used on a RIC? Are they softer? Thanks.

I don’t think they’re any softer. I think the issue may be the hard plastic ring that clicks onto the receiver.

If you have small ears, why didn’t your provider, talk about BTE aids with thin tubes so you don’t have the receiver in your ears?

Connexx has 4mm open click domes for Signia/Siemens/Rexton.

You can ask about custom ear molds. I have small ear canals and the domes and receiver I needed to give me the best match to my hearing loss, hurt. I just got my ear molds with the receivers in them and they are so much better! I got mine from Costco.

Hi. I wanted to know if Rexton HA’s can be fitted with any other brand/type- other than click domes.

Pretty sure there are no others besides Signia and Rexton. The plastic sleeves are key. I’ve tried others and had them fall off in my ear.

Can molds be made for RIC receivers that BARELY skim, fit into the canal entrance? Of course more noticeable, but at this stage, it is better than canal pain that feels like two chopsticks shoved into my ears. This seems to be the direction I’m heading.

I have no interest in BTE styles- do not see a need for them.

.

You might be surprised at comparing modern BTE and RIC hearing aids. They are very much alike.
Both are very nice and difficult to see the difference. A BTE with slimtubes is very discreet.

Hi. So you are saying BTE styles are more comfortable for people who have impossible ear canals? Thanks.

Seems like a good chance. You don’t have to deal with a receiver in your ear.

mine barely fit it the canal. Ok. So just realized this is a bad picture. Let me try again

. Barely goes in canals. It seems like it’s not as far as the domes went. This is a RIC

Thanks so much for the photo. Do they feel comfortable? What brand are these? T/u!
