Bluetooth quit working on Samsung Galaxy S24

@cvkemp has the Oticon Intent aids which have LEA enabled. I don’t know about the Jabra.
The 9040 you had before was the previous generation Philips which only supported one way calling. The new 9050 does support LE Audio.

You have Phonaks which use Bluetooth Classic, so yes, you have full hands-free, but other than Sonova made aids, most others use Bluetooth LE, which only supports ASHA.
The newest generation of Starkey, Oticon,Philips, and Rexton/Signia all support the newest Bluetooth LE Audio, so with a compatible phone they will get hands-free.

So thru! As indeed my Starkey’s AI 2400 also had no problems. So @PacaDoc ‘s statement about the Samsung doesn’t hold. (Off topic: Just to defend my beloved phone brand as an Android lover and IOS hater. Unfortunately the/ my first streaming HA’s were Resound’s and only supported by IOS at that time).

My Samsung S23 phone updated this morning I unpaired my aids from the phone and cleared the data of my companion app app then paired my aids. Hands free is still working after I enabled the le audio option in settings, connections, and my aids. I wasn’t expecting it to still work. I love having it but can live without it.

I just tried it again and did not work. I did it the same way you just done it. And when I turn on LE Audio I have no sound. When somebody calls me I tap my ear and my phone acts like it’s being answered but I have no sound. When I have LA Audio off I can’t answer the phone with a tap but I have sound when I answer the phone with a swipe. I guess that means I’m not hands-free. Anybody got a solution for this problem?

I truly don’t know what is going on, it is working great for me. Now I am in the USA, my phone is the base Samsung S23, not the plus or ultra.

Buried deep in my Samsung phone app settings is “answering and ending calls” then there is “gestures and answering calls” mine is set to tab. Not sure if this has anything to do with it.

Tap or swipe doesn’t make a difference answering calls. I just tried it both ways.

I didn’t know so that is good to know.

Don’t know what your problem is just trying to help… If you’re connected with your Android phone. Go to Settings —> Connections —> Bluetooth —> Paired devices (your hearing aids) —> Settings —> now you see your connected HA’s with Audio device type Headphones. Push volume up button on your phone —> BT volume is shown now, tap on the three upper bullets and then you see this picture. Here you can further see you’re settings as shown in my picture. Correct if something not appropriate. Hope this helps….

Mea Culpa!! Mystery solved–I foolishly thought I had a Samsung S24 phone, but now I realize that I still have my S22 phone (at the time I was shopping, they didn’t support hands-free calling). So, I am happy to get a new phone, but I’m thinking that I’d actually be safer with the S23, which has LTE and Auracast and telecoil. Any thoughts about hands free calling compatibility with Samsung Galaxy phones? I don’t want an Ultra or + model–my phone lives in my back pocket and I am small! And yes, I am sort of wedded to Samsung Galaxy phones for other reasons.
BTW, have Jabra Enhance Pro 20 from Costco.

I have the Samsung S23 and wish I had gotten the plus due to my eyesight.

I have a Samsung Galaxy s24 and I am completely hands-free. When I have LE Audio turn on it wasn’t hands-free. When I shut off Dolby Atmos in sound settings and I turn on LE Audio I have hands-free.

This is very interesting. Thinks for the information.
I have the Samsung S23 and I have Dolby Atmos enabled and I have full hands free

Samsung is getting ready to release their new operating system next month and I have noticed several small improvements and occasionally a glitch after several of the more recent update as they test out fixes. My calls to support indicate that both Jabra and Samsung software engineers are working on this ongoing connectivity problem with the newer version of Bluetooth before a final release of One UI 7 operating system which is due out in new S25 phones in a couple of weeks, together with updates for older phones to follow in the upcoming months. FYI the S24 still does not appear on the compatibility list for the Jabra enhance pro 20, even if the S23 does. Jabra has also released some “Firmware” updates that have fixed some issues and may also be related to the more recent Samsung updates. I found that these Jabra firmware updates are not pushed out to the device, and can only be installed by your HA provider.

Wow–I better spend some time in the store…!

My partner and I both have the Jabra Enhance Pro 20s. She has a Galaxy S24 Ultra and I have the Galaxy S23 Ultra. We both have hands free working with LE Audio.

Recently her Bluetooth stopped working on he S24. She ended up unpairing, uninstalling the app. Then she reinstalled the app and re-paired. It is working much better now.

@Frank_G, Would you care to share your Jabra Enhance Pro 20 firmware version details?

I bought mine in Oct 2024 (from Costco), and the MyEnhancePro app says they were version 9.35.1.1. With one unit now replaced, the replacement is at 9.68.1.1.

Disappointingly, the app says both are “up to date” :upside_down_face:

As for the HA provider doing the updates… my provider has always indicated that the one shipped with my units (9.35.1.1) is the latest they can get (as of early Jan 2025).

Of course, it IS possible that the changes between 9.35.1.1 and 9.68.1.1 are not relating to performance or core function (eg. other language support, or maintenance module updates etc), but jeez, it does look odd to me.

And yes, I am one of the (no-doubt many) Galaxy S24 (UI 6.1, Android 14, and last SW update being S921BXXS5AXKA from 19-Dec-2024) users wafting around in no-mans-land, waiting for a useful update from somewhere (either jabra or samsung) to improve overall BT reliability and also fix the two way voice call connection.

@studeimus Last night when I went in to look up my firmware version the app would not display it, This morning I tried the same thing and I was presented with a new privacy agreement to sign, after which it seems to be working. I can confirm that my most recent firmware update was to 9.68.1.1, which I believe occurred around November of last year. This is also when I discovered that this class of firmware updates is not the type that can be done OTA (over the air). I had to personally request my Costco service rep and demand they look it up and then install it (I also changed to a different Rep that was more attentive to my needs and concerns. At the same time Samsung was also making some updates to the Bluetooth components of its operating system. After installing both the Samsung’s update AND the Jabra firmware 90% of my problems went away. I still have problems with Bluetooth dropping from time to time and so finally called the online support. They acknowledged there were still issues they were working on but he felt that they would have a solid fix when their new operating system (One UI 7) is rolled out later this month with the new S25 phones. I should note that even though the S23 appears to be qualified device for the Jabra’s they never updated their list to include the S24 (presumably because of the problems they have encountered). It so happens that I have the new S25 with One UI 7 preinstalled arriving by UPS in an hour or two. So, I may have more to report next week after I get everything switched over and tuned up.

The Consumer Electronics show just showcased a lot of new hearing aid technology and products, so there are now a lot more new product updates and competition out there. If the One UI 7 release does not do the trick for me later this month (and / or a new Jabra firmware to match up with it), I will start looking for something else later this year after the dust settles with the new Bluetooth protocols, and the Hearing Aid engineers have figured it out. I don’t believe there is any manufacturer that has been able to successfully integrate the new Bluetooth protocols with their operating systems for Apple, Samsung, or Google’s implementation of Android. At least, I believe your HAs are still under the return policy for a couple more months. Good luck.

Thanks for the info @Frank_G .

  • Yes, I had the same problem with my Jabra app in the last few days, though in my case, even doing the privacy agreement stuff wouldn’t even work - kept bombing out in various ways. After reinstalling the app and re-pairing the HAs, it all went back to normal, thankfully.
  • Is your S24 running One UI 6.1.1? I’ve been looking out for that moreso than V7, given its not such a major release, and some in these forums have indicated good results with it (might have been you!)
  • Jeez they’d better not leap-frog BT LE 5.3 in their efforts to get all this working. (Some have mentioned V5.4 in these forums now).
  • Yes, I have calendar reminders to remind me about the 6mo trial window (in a few months)… actively considering other options.

Regards, Stu.

6.1.1 was released in September for the S24; however, it still shows as 6.1 in the phone settings. Only on the tablets have it badged as 6.1.1. There are a couple of videos you can find with a google that explains how to spot the differences. Try searching with: “S24 Ultra BATTLE - One UI 6.1.1 vs One UI 6.1”. Just got my new S25 and hope to work on transitioning this weekend. I note that Jabra still only lists the S23 as compatible. Again, I think this is because they encountered so many problems, they didn’t want to make it worse by including the newer versions until they got it right. Good luck.
