Audio streaming issues with Philips 50 range - work around

I posted recently about issues with constant disconnects from one ear or the other or both when streaming audio/calls from my Android phone to my Philips 5050 hearing aids. My audiologist was fantastic - immediately called Philips whilst I sat there, had a long conversation and came back with a work around - put the phone in “Airplane” mode for at least 30 seconds - after that the issue was resolved! So far it has stayed resolved, but if it happens again apparently this should work again.

Once again, the old adage about computers rears its ugly head, “Hardware breaks, and software sucks”. No one knows why placing your Android phone in Airplane mode and then off again works. The perils of open source.

I was told to turn my phone off and on.

I guess airplane mode will do the same thing?

Sure, airplane mode disconnects the bluetooth,WiFi, and cellular networks, and when you turn airplane mode off, it starts a fresh connection.

Absolutely.

It’s probably a good idea to restart your phone at least once a week to clear out all “junk”.
This also helps keep those little niggles to a minimum!

Actually Philips were quite specific that it should be airplane mode and not turning off/on. I didn’t have success just restarting the phone. They also said they don’t yet know why. As a software developer this rings true to me. These systems are so complex and bugs lurk in every corner. I have no trouble believing that the code that is involved in airplane mode does something subtly different to restarting the phone.

FWIW, the bluetooth on my phone stays on when I put it into airplane mode. (Samsung Galaxy S22+)

Oddly . . . when I toggle airplane mode on my motorola g power 5g 2024, a message pops up telling me that BT will stay on in Airplane Mode . . .

Google made that change to Android a while back.

You have to manually toggle it to off, and next time it should remember your last setting

It definitely turns everything off and has done on android for many a year.

Just manually turn it off, and it’ll remember your selection.
I believe the article even points it out:
Another system-level prompt will remind you about your choice the next time Airplane Mode is turned on, and that it can be changed back to the default behavior by turning Wi-Fi off while in Airplane Mode.
Same applies to Bluetooth.

Yeah my pixel never prompts me, either.
What phone RU using?

I got Sammy galaxy Note,

OK, it looks like an older version of android.

Hahahaha. I have been turning my phone off and one once a day for ever it seems since I got new HA. Technology will be the death of me I think.
