You’re welcome. I find the Comfort and Speech in Noise programs to be very effective. They handle all my needs, without having to get into audiologist tweaks.
I have the Signia AX 7 with telecoil, solely because the battery life is significantly longer.
Hi there
A short update on my trial, have returned the Signia Pure C&G 7AX. While the Signia’s were in very particular hearing situations great (e.g. enhance voice in noisy environments → being in the living room and somebody is talking to you from the kitchen while the coffee machine is running) I still prefer the Phonak Paradise over the Signia’s. The simple connectivity (BT classic) is definitively plus and the overall sound experience was for me personally fitting better. Also the intelligent automatic AutoSense 4.0 was in my experience more effective then the “Universal” program of Signia AX. Another advantage of the trialed Phonak Paradise setup are the custom ear molds (cShell) compared with the Signia custom ear molds. The cShell earmolds did not leak any sound outside during streaming, this was the case for the Signia earmolds and somebody sitting next to me did hear the streamed sound.
Will now see if Spring brings any new releases and then decide.
I’m new to wearing hearing devices. I wore Signia 5AX for a month on trial, and have just started a trial of Widex Moments 440. This isn’t like-for-like for a couple of reasons: 440 is the premium tier, whereas 5AX is a step down, and they were fitted by different audiologists.
For me, though, the difference is night and day. I am hugely relieved I overcame my own reluctance to try to a second clinic and brand. I knew within a couple of days that Widex suited me in a way the Signias just hadn’t. All of the comments below are “for me” of course : )
The Widex deliver a much more natural sound in a wider set of circumstances. The PureSound programme is much better than Universal, and the changes it makes are clear, prompt, but not distracting. Speech is slightly less clear, but I think the Signias may have been overflavouring things. I can still understand speech very well in the new Widex pair and expect that will improve in the coming days too. Streaming is less good than the Signias in terms of sound quality and reliability, but I’m not sure I really want to stream anyway. I have AirPods Pro that are a different ball-game for streaming entirely, and they are fit to my audiogram. The charger for Widex is much neater (not least, the USB cable comes out of the unit, so it’s tidy to stow in a luggage pocket when you’re away from home). The way you can set your own profiles up in the Widex app is much better than the Signias: you follow a real-time A/B listening test, and your feedback at each step suggests the next. The software presents upto 16 steps—slow down; take your time—and you have something very useful saved. TV sound is seriously great now, having done that carefully over a 10-min listen. Finally, as icing on the cake for me, Widex have colour options too: I wanted blue cases, and they had two blue colours to choose from. I couldn’t be happier with the Moments, I think!
Can you please advise the price difference? I understand one isn’t premium level but would give a ballpark $. Tnx
Here in the UK, the Widex 440s with very good bundled aftercare are around £3.5k. The Signia 5AX—with far less support—were quoted as a thousand pounds less.
Hi there
Another short update on my trial, as mentioned previously did check what Spring will bring regarding any new releases and have now decided to go with the Phonak Audéo P90-RL (Phonak Audéo Life) as my new hearing aids.
It’s a less harsh feedback reduction so it doesn’t distort sound quality,… although you must have the proper molds and stuff
I’ve just trialed the Paradise and Moments, back to back, for two weeks each.
First off, the Bluetooth classic just works, sounds clear, and there was nothing I couldn’t connect to… but it eats battery life so streaming continuous tinnitus treatment may be impractical. The Phonaks were outstanding at providing clear speech in noisy environments. Their processing delay made natural reverb and echo worse.
The Moments are noticeably more natural sounding, more dynamic range and detailed. Those and the low and almost zero lag makes for a natural sounding experience.
With Moments, the increased likelihood of feedback is a trade off for their low processing time and accuracy of their digital conversion. They have two tiers of feedback control mechanism built in.
