One thing that baffles me is why a hearing test isn’t performed periodically on everyone, like a colonoscopy. Getting a baseline value and trend would have been great information for me.

And (in the US, anyway) a GP never mentions such–the patient has to be the one to ask for it. Not right. Yes, it should be part of an annual physical exam–at least for those over 55 (or so).
