Why was I banned from the facebook group

Hi Abram, and all,

I sent the email below on Nov. 17 2024. Never got a reply.

TLDR:
I was banned from two Facebook groups managed by HearingTracker—the main hearing aids support group and the ReSound Community group—after I asked about getting a used ReSound hearing aid and asked about DIY programming with NoahLink. I don’t think I broke any rules, and I wasn’t given a warning or a reason for the ban. I’m guessing it might be because I mentioned DIY programming(?). I want to be part of these discussions again, as I’m an active participant who’s a rule-follower, and this unexpected ban has left me feeling confused and excluded. It’s really, really, hard being alone with hearing loss, and one of my favorite things was seeing the support the facebook people showed to everyone.

(Nov. 17 2024)
Yesterday, I found out that I was banned from both the main hearing aids support group (@hearingaidforum) and ReSound Community group on Facebook.
Apparently that was the same day I joined and posted on the ReSound community group regarding purchasing a used ReSound hearing aid since I have a Cochlear brand CI in the other ear; While I don’t have the exact contents of the post I was just asking about experiences with buying a used HA, I did ask about DIY or self-programming with NoahLink and was wondering about the manufacturer warranty or service.

I don’t think I was rude or anything with my tone nor I broke any of the listed group rules in the about section, I read them and am aware of all of them as I am an active participant on the main group (hearing aids support group) I help answering questions when I can help and was benefiting as well from the contents shared.

Later the day I posted I tried to lookup the post if I got any responses only to find myself unable to reach the group page, so I just figured the ban and then shortly also realized the ban on the main group (subsequently, I assume).

Lots of assumptions, since I wasn’t contacted or warned with a reason for the ban. Just immediate.
So now I am assuming it was the DIY/NoahLink mentioning? So explaining myself: I didn’t post at the main hearing aids support group because when I searched for DIY I didn’t find anyone talking about it (even though it’s not against the listed group rules) so that’s why I looked at the resound group and did in fact find people talking about DIY and NoahLink so I assumed this okay there and went ahead and posted. I even know that forum hosts its own DIY section here!

Now why I am contacting, it’s simply because I am still deaf  (actually, sad). I still want to be included in the discussions and be up to date, I am a PhD student (most lonely time in my life doubled with a HA!), and young, of course I’d want to participate and be included my community, after all the group name has support in it. I am a rule-follower and usually not a trouble maker, this ban and exclusion made my head spin because I genuinely have no idea what have I done and I was not told of any reason.

I think the links below are my “group” profiles, or at least that’s what I got from my browser history, I guess group admins can see all my activities in each group:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/230034402379811/user/100002494353345/

Looking forward to hearing(!) back from the mods/admins or even facebook participants if anyone have seen me or interacted with me.

If I am not coming back, ever. I just want a reason or justification, it just feels unfair and makes me feel bad in general. Please reach out to me at the email address from which I sent the email above, and replied to multiple times since I’ve never gotten a response.

If this post is just getting deleted and my requests are just ghosted, I’d appreciate if any of the amazing community contributors and volunteers would advocate on my behalf, @tenkan

Well I’d just like to say welcome to the forum and I’m glad your here, as your looking for some help from other members, could I make one suggestion, let’s start fresh and not worry about the past too much, why not check out the DIY forum here, some of your questions are most likely to have been answered there.

You’ll get more detailed, and accurate, advice here anyway.

It’s helpful if you can post your audiogram. (Click on your avatar, then the bell, then My Audiogram)

Welcome, @hearless !
I don’t use the FB groups, myself. I can barely handle the traffic here. I hope you can find the answer for which you seek.

First thing that comes to my mind as I read over your post is that the CI Software isn’t typically available for DIY and would be required (I think? I’m not a DIYer either) for linking the CI and the HA.

I bet you’ll learn a ton if you embark on programming the aid separate from the CI. I’m wondering if you have matured in your rehab following CI activation. I’d think you’d want to wait on the HA until you were hearing well through the CI?

Best wishes!
