I just had the receivers changed on my Phonak Audeo Paradise P90R’s.
The hearing aids came with the original 4.0 Receivers; I had graduated to 4.0 Power Receivers.
I hated them. The wax guards needed changing all the time. Every time I did I heard better. 1/3 of the time I would find that the wax guard was in crooked.
So I changed to the 5.0 Receivers. Actually 5.0 Power Receivers. Thank you Phonak for making this change. If I had known how terrible the 4.0 receivers were, I would have changed hearing aid brands. I’m a happy customer now.
Please be careful. Domes and wax guards are different. If you get the new 5.0 receivers you’ll like them. But make sure you get wax guards and domes too.
Thanks for the info DaveL, I think I am more confused now than I was when I first started. I have the CeruShields 098-0445 so it looks like I have all the fun ahead of me. I cant understand what the problem is with my ones. is it getting the old filter out or new one in, or both. thanks jack
I think that the little tiny wax guards were designed by a young person for young people.
When I decide to change the wax filter, I take the dome off and set it safely aside. If the wax filters are crooked I can’t get them out using the black disk they come in. I use a small sewing needle. I usually get stuck. Then I use my Swiss Army knife. That doesn’t help my mood. It takes some manipulating to finally get it out of the receiver.
Every time I put a brand new wax filter on the receiver I would check to see if it was straight. Then I would put the dome on.
The tiny wax filters have less capacity than the old ones that worked for me. They collect less wax but they get plugged more quickly Every time I changed mine, I heard better…for a while.
The little round dispenser holds 8 wax filters. But you can’t see how many new ones are left.
Every time I took my hearing aids out of the charger, I said "darn wax filters.)
I had two sets of Phonaks before. The wonderful wax filters in them were easy to change and work. My third set of Phonaks was worse than terrible with these tiny wax filters. Thank heaven they provided new receivers.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Give them a try. They must have worked for some people. If they work for you, that’s good.
They sure didn’t work for me. I used them for 3 years.
I worked in manufacturing for 15 years. There are two reasons to change something.
*improve the product so you sell more, or
*increase profits by producing cheaper parts.
Hi DaveL, thanks again for the detailed info. Amazon are doing 64 filters for €39.99 so not a bad price. Once prices of the new recievers drop I shall get a couple, but meanwhile I have got my electric drill and a masonry bit ready to change the filters. Jack
Also patent, re-patent cycle. Make something that’s slightly different enough from the competition every 10 years and maintain exclusivity for parts supply over factored product: The Gillette Principle.
As mentioned I have found recievers on amazon but I dont really know what I am looking at. Would one of you kind peeps please give me the reciever model/ reference number of the latest ones please. . TIA
Profuse apologies I have just re-read one of DaveL`s comments wherein he mentions the new receivers being number 5. A senior moment and I apologies once more.
I am seeing my audiologist tomorrow for final adjustments, I shall ask what he charges cos I know he has a fantastic sense of humour…
I shall report back once I am calm.
My audiologist is unwell so didnt get to ask him about the receivers fitted to my L70 and the latest 5 ones. I asked the shop assistant about the receivers but didnt seem clued up. I removed the dome and on the side of the receiver is “2P”, I assume that is the old receiver. My domes are “power, small 4” closed so again assume I have the old receivers fitted. Whilst on domes there are several on amazon many of which look very similar so not sure which are right for mine. May I please be a pain and ask which are the correct ones. from uk or spain. TIA
Yes they are very common and easily obtainable. Amazon, Ebay etc, Connevans in the UK. I’m sure there a many places in Spain where you can purchase them.
