Bizarre question here! Does anyone know the weight of Oticon More rechargeable minirites vs new battery version More? I was hoping that maybe the rechargeable batteries make for a heavier aid and I can switch them for the battery version. I know the cases are the same size. My Audi has changed domes and wire size and my tmj is STILL bothering me. I wore Oticon Opn for years and they gave me a slight jaw and ear pain, but It did go away eventually. This aching has been going on for over a month. Thanks!
Correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t these bte aids. If they are I have had discomfort in the past due to the thickness of the bte aid. I do not have a lot of space between my ear and my head. If the aid is too fat it would push my ear further away from my head. It wasn’t noticeable at first but after a few days or a week I would be in agony. It had nothing to do with weight
I’ve looked at the technical data sheet and spec sheet and I don’t see any mention of the weight. I agree with hass5744 that it’s probably more due to thickness than weight. At any rate, even if the disposable battery version of the More is lighter than the rechargeable version, it’s probably not significant enough to make a difference to solve your TMJ issue.
You should probably ask your audi to loan out the disposable battery version to you to try out for a week or two to see if it helps or not. If you’ve made that issue known to your audi up front already, maybe they’re amenable to let you try it out. I still doubt if it makes a difference to you if they’re both the same size even if they have (very slightly) different weights.
Thanks. I will talk to my Audi. It’s such a drag because I am hearing so much better with these than my Opns. I wish the battery operated Mores had a thinner case.
I just picked up my More 1’s on Thursday. Previous were the OPN S1’s. When ordering them the Audi told me the More would be slightly larger. I don’t notice this at all. As far as weight goes I feel no difference at all. I actually don’t even feel them behind my ears. I do need to get back and have the programming slightly modified but other than that I am very happy with them.
Yes it can be disappointing if you can’t wear the aids you like. But if it’s because there’s not enough room behind your ear then you’re going to have to move on. Someone saying yes their wider but I don’t notice any difference obviously has enough space behind their ear. Most people probably do. Just another thing that makes hearing loss such a challenge. I hope that’s not the problem. Maybe a different mold will help. I’m only telling from my own personal experience. Also the pain is usually not instantly. The good news is bte aids keep getting thinner and thinner. Dear igbut62. I’m glad they work for you. I’m sure they work for most
One final suggestions. Look in the mirror and slide the aids behind your ears. Are they pushing your ears out
I am thinking about upgrading from an original OPN miniRITE to a More miniRITE, but I am also a bit concerned about the size difference. Is there anyone who could post a side by side picture of the original non-telecoil OPN (with the single button not the rocker switch) and the More? I would really appreciate it.
I had the same issue with the Opn S1 rechargeable model and had to swap it for the one with batteries. I believe it is the width, not the weight that is the issue.
Turns out the rechargeable one is 10mm wide and the battery one is 9mm wide. It was that extra millimeter that was pushing one of my ears out and making it hurt. I thought i had plenty of room, but it turns out that years of wearing glasses with spring-loaded temple pieces has actually resulted in grooves in my skull behind each ear, with the adjoining bone rising up just a bit as the squeezing pressed in the center.
I talked with Oticon recently about the More model and they tell me the side-to-side dimensions are identical to the Opn ones.
Thanks! It is such a bummer that the Mores rechargeable and battery operated are the same width. I think I am going to replace my Opns with Opn S so I can have a smaller width. I realize that is a step back from the technology of the Mores and I probably won’t like them as much. The pressure on my jaw and ears is just too much with the Mores!
the technology from the Mores
Perhaps I was not clear. Oticon told me the disposable battery More was 9mm wide just like my Opn S1, and the rechargeable one, just as with the Opn S1 was 10mm wide. You might call them to double check before doing anything.
Ok, now I really don’t know what to do! My regular Opns(not S), just conked out, so I have no idea what model to get now. It has to be a more narrow one, obviously , but I have had Oticons for over 10 years. I really am at a loss.
There are other brands beside oticons. I know that’s what you’re used to it you might be plesàntly surprised after you try a different brand. They don’t all sound the same
When I got the More 1(still in trial), it kicked my TMJ pain into high gear on one side! I have small ears, and very small, twisty canals. I do feel the difference in size from the OPN 1. What actually caused the pain was the different shape of the receiver wire. If you can, put the comfortable wire & receiver with the dome from the OPN onto the Mores. That may help your TMJ pain to settle down. (I was also putting ice on the joint.) I wear P100 receivers, which are big, but the shape of the new wire wasn’t the same, so I replaced it with the old OPN receiver, even though it was 3+ years old as it was comfortable. It allowed the pain to subside - not gone, but not painful.
Going backwards in technology to the OPNS was considered, and I was given a pair to demo, but I decided I did not want old technology.
I also suggest you demo the replaceable battery More, before you move on from Oticon.
Thank you for the advice. My receiver on one of my Opns stopped working and since they were already 5 years old, I decided to try the Mores. I unfortunately can only use 1 of my receiver’s from the old Opns to try on the new More’s, since 1 stopped working. Do you think the Opn receivers are different than the Mores? My Audi thinks they are exactly the same. The Mores are great, but maybe I will switch to Widex if they have a minirite with a small case.
The Signia Styletto X has a very slim (but much longer) profile. Maybe it’s worth a try for you.
Costco also sells a rebranded Rexton version of it, as seen in the second screenshot below, called the M-Core SR.
Miracle Ear also has a rebranded version of the Signia Styletto X, but their business model is not everyone’s favorite on this forum.
First take the aids to your audiologist and talk to him. I would go with no hearing aids before I went to miracle ear
Yes the receivers are exactly the same. If you have the receiver that stopped working, your Audi can shape the new receiver wire to match the angles and bends of the broken wire.
I agree, using old receivers is not ideal. The test is to see if they relieve the pressure causing your pain and discomfort.
Absolutely, visit the Audi.
Thanks to all for your thoughtful suggestions. One of the problems is that my Audi has been out for over a month on family medical leave while I have been on my Mores trial. I will hopefully see him again in 2 weeks.
