I am old man, I will buy new aid at Costco. All I care about is to hear better. I have severe loss and use ear inserts or things made with a mold. Which model would be best to hear my wife or tv. Thanx
I’d tell them what you told us and go with their advice. I’d also ask for the device that streams TV sound directly to your hearing aids.
What do you consider as old? I am 77 years young and have been wearing aids for 20 years. I love the bells and whistles. But electronics and computers have been my life. I depend on the Bluetooth connectivity to be able to have conversations over a phone. I can not use a landland in most case because I can’t stream my calls to my aids. I have to use a smartphone with connectivity to my aids. I also enjoy streaming audiobooks to my aids. Just something to think about!
I don’t think there is such a thing as ‘just plain hearing’. Consider: 1) hearing 1 to 1 from a short distance in a quiet environment; 2) hearing the same in a noisy environment; 3 & 4) hearing many to one in quiet vs noisy environment; 5) hearing a TV; 6) hearing a lecture or religious service; 7-unpteen) hearing music in a concert hall, small room; recorded, live, hearing music while playing an instrument, while being in a chorus, while being a soloist…
What and where do you want to hear better. The more sepcific you are, the better your results will be.
If you read about HAs, you’ll find that some people like brand A; others like brand B, C, D, E, or F.
Costco carries Jabra (ReSound clone), Philips (made by Oticon’s maker, but apparently not an Oticon clone), and Rexton (Signia clone). A Costco employee is likely to recommend one brand. You can probably try all 3 brands. Then you decide what you think is best for you.
My hearing is such that I need a TV streamer. With the streamer, I get better sound than I’ve ever gotten. One can attach headphones to my Roku, but I have never liked headphones, and the streamer is good enough for me.
I agree with MBD, above. Tell the technician you talk to at Costco what you told us and see what they recommend. Remember, you can return as often as you wish (at Costco) to get various settings adjusted, until the hearing aids WORKS for you! Modern hearing aids are great devices and can make a huge difference for you–if you give them a chance!
Recently, I’ve rediscovered audiobooks (free thru my public library!) and having the daily newspaper read to my ears while I’m walking (several miles a day).
