What does this Audiogram mean?

My friends Nephew who I don’t know well has worn a left hearing aid for around 4 years.

He’s in his teenage years.

Today he had a hearing test and it showed this drop at 2K but it’s literally been left at this after adjusting his HA.

What does this indicate?

Is it Noise Induced?

He loves playing his trumpet.

No follow up appointment apparently needed.

He’s wearing a Phonak Sky M70 M - 312 batteries.

Right ear is perfect!

My right ear goes down a bit on around that frequency (not tob100Db though). My audiologist suggested it may have been from shooting guns, which did a bit of, many years ago??

Google says the staple bone in the middle ear could be an issue but they didn’t even do BC on him.

Altho Google can be wrong.

Congenital possibly. Or post severe viral - Scarlet Fever, Measles, Covid etc……

It’s not going to have a big BC component as that would be evident in the lower frequencies.

The 2KHz is a bit worrying as there’s likely a dead-spot there.

That is quite a drop. Wow. Well, “no follow up needed” is a dubious statement IMHO. Search out a qualified or different specialist for a different opintion. Audiologist just give you the text. They really aren’t qualified to diagnose, though some are well-informed. This definitely deserves a second opinion. You don’t need another audiogram - take the one you have to an ENT and ask what could cause such a drop. The comment about shooting guns was interesting.I played trumpet for many yers. Trumpet wouldn’t cause this, but if you were sitting next to the percussion section that could be a concern. All just IMHO.

We live in the UK and don’t get a choice of another ‘free’ option.

The Mum is contacting the hospital again tho. Not sure of the outcome yet.
