I am about to embark on purchasing new hearing aids. I currently wear Phonak Slim Lumity 90s and am not really keen on them for various reasons. I am planning to get some sort of ITE aids, not because I worry about them being visible, but for comfort reasons. I wear glasses, don’t have very big ears or much space behind them and because of my chronic illness spend a lot of time lying down and the wire that goes over my ear is causing much soreness. I have been considering the Starkey Edge AI ITE, but cannot seem to find a full list of features of the 24, 20 and 16. Looking at my lifestyle, the 16 would probably be fine, but before I spend my money I would really like to know what I would be sacrificing. I have found a new audiologist who will visit me at home, which I need, but really would like to know more before I see her. When I bought my last aids, I didn’t know enough to make a truly informed choice.
@Tealover
And Starkey has such a nice site with their specs…
They do, but I still don’t see any comparison list of the different features of the 24,20&16
Thanks, that’s better, but that is the Genesis, not the Edge AI
Thanks, that is the sort of thing I was looking for, but I was sure there would be more differences than that.
Dig through the Pro website.
Thank you, just had a quick look and that is exactly what I was looking for
Long term always the 24 is worth the investment if the budget allows it by all means. Highest definition of sound, plus all the improved noise surpression, wind, etc. Basically 20 and 24 have a lot of difference on the consonants and speech clarity plus the added sound comfort. Quite helpful on especially high frequency hearing loss. 16 is quite good but for long term if social activity is necessary or increased, that would be challenging. About the ITE choice even with a large vent (if even possible) there will be often a feeling of occlusion on head movement on a small ear canal, with a good low frequency. Micro RIC or RIC always beat the fitting problem, comfort and versatility. If custom ITE is the only way, then a really good impression and optional try the Signature custom with 10 battery or rechargeable Non wireless if it makes a good fit.
Thanks, it has to be in the ear for comfort, which is my reason for buying new aids at this time. Do you know anything about the user controls across the 3 technology levels? Is it app control or are there any buttons for volume etc?
They can be added to your preorder. This can be done by your audiologist. Controls is push button, rotary controls but not sure if possible on small faceplate. Depends on the type of custom aid. Small signature series push button can be added. On rechargeable custom ITE models if there is space on faceplate, your audiologist can request them for you. If Starkey can’t add any control because of the lack of space they always call or let you or your audiologist know. Best bet can add a push button which is practical and convenient.
**If the version is non wireless then no app control through MyStarkey
Thank you, that’s good to know. I don’t mind going a bit bigger in order to have some controls. Vanity/embarrassment is not an issue for me - grey hair, glasses and wheelchair are bad enough so hearing aids don’t make much difference.
