Hi everyone, some of you know that i started my hearing loss correction about 6 weeks ago and i’m a diy’er. I just go to audiologist now and then just to solve “problems” i can’t by myself.
I started with a pair of SIGNIA ACTIVE PRO IX and they are really good for my loss and my needs (bluetooth is awsome for calling, music and tv…WOW), and now i bought a pair of Silk 7IX (cic) to wear in some situation like weddings, work, cerimony because they are more stealth. Once at a wedding people mistook me for a security guard because i was wearing my active pro ix .
CONNEXXAIR for my signia silk is coming in two-three days.
The HA (cic) i bought online on ebay, arrived pre programmed with mu audiogram by the seller with a vented sleeve configuration so I’ve been able to try them for some time, they are great but i have a question on how to wear them.
when i put my CICs into the era canal I push them all the way down, they are pratically invisible, very impressive, but i feel like there’s something wrong because everything sounds closed, dull, as if I had cotton in my ears. If I pull them out a little everithing sounds normal but just because the HA are a little out from the canal and i think that sounds are passing through the ventilation holes of the sleeves. The HAs are still well fixed in the ear but more visible than before. Is it normal? I thought CIC had to be inserted all the way in, but if i do i can’t wear almost nothing. Maybe i have to try a close/power fit program to benefit the CIC?
Are you using the same sleeves on both (Active X and Silk)?
It sounds like an occlusion effect, but since the Active IX and the Silk use the same type of domes, I’m not sure why you experience occlusion with the Silk but not with the Active IX. Going with the power fit will give you more occlusion (if that is what is happening).
@tenkan has more experience with the Silks, he may be able to help more.
There is also this setting in Connexx that may help:
finally connexxair is arrived and now I can do everything I want with my HA (nohalink wireless for the active IX pro and connexxair for the silks).
So, having some experience with my active Ix pro i started playing with the silks, as i wrote in the OP i had the sensation of closed ear and every sounds were like unamplified but not the higher frequencies, if I let the cics fit a bit out of the canal so the air could pass through the venting holes of the sleeves the situation changed a bit, the HA were safely in place but they were more visible than a deep fit.
I tried this trick, fitted my cics really inside my ears, safely, no pain, and programmed as a power fit…night and day my friend, finally the silks work properly, the sleeves are always the vented one but i think the HA are completely closing the ear canal…no feedback but a little, very little occlusion.
I have a question, why they sell open, tulip, vented sleeves for this HA if the SILK (cic obviously) have to occlude the canal to work like they have to. i can understand that custom mold cic could have vent but this kind of HA couldn’t…if you want the vent to work you must have to fit the cic a bit off of your canal.
sorry for my english i hope you can understand what i said…hear you
I’ve got Signia, but not silk. The domes I use are pictured below.
At first I had the occluded effect, plus moving my jaw made a popping sound. The audiologist simply had me wear the domes pushed less deep into the ear.
I can still hear sounds as well as when I used to shove them in and there is no occlusion feeling & no popping sound.
Some people, like me, have good low to mid-frequency hearing, which makes us more sensitive to the occlusion effect. When I had my Active Pro, I preferred using tulips because the closed option didn’t sound good to me. Ultimately, different types of hearing loss may require different solutions.
I haven’t used the Silks; what I wrote is based on my experience with the Active Pro.
ok you exactly know what I mean, the fact is that i don’t understand why I have to push less deep the cic to have benefit of the venting hole, they are made to be invisible…my sleeves are the same as the image you posted. fortunately (for me) i can wear the cic deep into my ear with a bearable occlusion and no popping sound. thank you for your reply.
excellent observation, thanks.
As you know the Active Pro IX are ITC so you can’t push them as deep as cic, with the Active pro i wear vented sleeves and i can feel the benefits of ventilation, with the silk i have to push them less deep and i don’t want to because they are more visible, trust me with a deep fit my silk 7IX C&G are litterally invisibile and i’m noticing that with a closed/power setting the DSP, speech in noise and the thousand features they have work millions of time better.
hi there, after a testing period i’m here again to let you know what i’m experiencing. I started with open sleeves, then vented for my signia silk 7 IX but noticed that I have to push the CIC less deep into the ear to benefit of the venting and i don’t want to because this reduce the invisibility of the HA. So tried the closed and the power sleeve pushed deep in the canal. doing this I have a bit of occlusion and sometime I can feel my heart beat in the left ear, not the sound but the pressure. Furthermore with the closed and the power i have the feeling of isolation from the entire world. Every sounds are very attenuate and people voices sounds a bit metallic. I can hear people speaking but the ambient sounds are like not amplified…I don’t know how to explain the sansation but with the open and the vented the earing is like having nothing in my ears with some frequencies amplified, with the closed and the power is like having earplugs that amplify just voices and some high frequencies with a sensation of metallic listening. With the closed and the power my left ear tinnitus rages like hell. Every time i switch the sleeves i change the fitting in Connexx of course. Have the closed and the power sleeves work like this or I am missing something?
Off topic: with the closed and the power sleeves I love how my other pair of HA (Active IX PRO) works streaming sounds, i can finally ear the power and the punch of the bass in music streaming, with open and vented the bass were pratically inexistent.
