I got a pair of Phonak L70’s about 6 weeks ago.
The Phonak app records when and how long I wear them. Usually the times are within a minute or so of each other unless my right ear canal decides to not cooperate with me.
Yesterday, there was a 2 hour difference. I put them in at the same time and never switched one off.
Does anyone here know how the HA know that I’m wearing them or what might account for the discrepancy?
Yes, I’m overthinking and obsessing.
In case anyone is interested. I’ve been doing some ‘field research’ with my aids. Seems they don’t actually know if I’m wearing them. If they’re on, the counter is too. Turning one or both off or placing them in the charger stops the wear counter for that HA. The Phonak app does not need to be connected to the HA or the phone’s BT enabled. Once reconnected to the app, they wear time counter on the app resyncs.
Actually, I think that information is available in the Target fitting software, which your HIS could access for you.
I wear Oticon, and do DIY, so I check my useage occasionaly (I don’t obsess, though).
The report showes time on, programs used, and other info.
Here’s a sample from a “dummy” program I use, so no real stats, but you can see the catagories:
LOL! No idea how you’d get a 2-hour differential on the aids.
I would assume the aids would “know” you have them on cuz they’d be ON - as in, taken out of the charger and powered ON, which would start the clock.
For me, it’s super easy to deduce how long I’ve worn my aids. Being deaf as a cinderblock, I only have to glance at the clock when I put them IN (they’d be ON for sure). At day’s end, I take them out and remove the batteries (yes, I have those wunerful 312-battery Lumity Life aids!! LOVE 'EM!). A quick glance at the clock and voila! I can compute how long they were worn.
I have Phonak Slim lumity 90s and in my case the app does not bear much resemblance to the time I am actually wearing them. I don’t charge my aids overnight and they are switched OFF . If I were to believe the app I would have been wearing them while fast asleep. It regularly says that I have worn them for 20-22 hours a day. Firstly the battery would not last that long and secondly I have a chronic illness and do not stay up that long! I have flagged this up with my audiologist and she said that the time logged in the aids themselves was correct and that the app was better than it used to be. I have also raised this with Phonak, but not got any feedback. In summary it’s an app issue.
