I have had my Starkey evolv 2400’s quit on me twice. Once when I stepped in the shower by accident and once while exercising and sweating. Has anyone succesfully had their hearing aids waterproofed perhaps by having them nano coated?
A starkey dealer said I should apply the laptop rule?? He asked if I would take my laptop in the shower or exercise with my laptop.
I never had an issue with water with my old Oticon opnS1.
Pretty sure they are nano-coated already?
They might be, but, I am having some real issues. They are great aids but really not very durable. Thank you! I was hoping someone had similar experience or an idea.
The worst experience I ever had with nano coating was with a pair of ReSound Live 9s. The nano coating seemed to just make it easier for perspiration to drop on the aid and race toward the battery door. Once the zinc air battery got wet the aids would stop working. I could literally see the track of the perspiration where it ran down the aid and into the battery compartment.
Wow, I guess I’ll just have to live with their poor resistance to water. Thanks for the reply!!
I have Evolve AI 2400 RIC R and worry about the moisture/waterproofing.
I’ve asked three different people at the Starkey dealer about water and sweat, they all said it shouldn’t be a problem. Obviously your experience is different.
I workout almost everyday on an elliptical trainer, lift weights 3-4 times a week, ride 100 to 200 miles on mile road bike, and lastly try to get out on my mountain bike twice a week.
I don’t ride in the rain on purpose.
I have ear gear covers for my HAs. I leave a set on most of the time. One set is red/yellow and the other is camo. These definitely help with wind noise and I believe water/sweat is more likely to roll down the outside rather than enter the microphone holes.
Sweatbands and bicycle caps (under the helmet) seem to help manage sweat as well.
Do you own a dehumidifier
Do you wear your Evolv’s while on the elliptical? That’s exactly where they shorted out. I’ll look into ear gels. I’ve been wearing my old oticon’s when I’m exercising. They seem to be bullet proof. I’ve had nothing but trouble with starkey’s over the years. Mostly switches going bad now the moisture issue. You may ask why I still have them, my answer is that I think they have the best noise cancelling in the industry. Thanks for the ear gear info!
Yes, I wear them while on the elliptical.
I take them off to sleep and shower.
I don’t use the switches, maybe I’m doing something wrong or missing out.
Hi there, Most people use the automatic program which is just good in most situations. I have 4 programs that I use for different situations, ie restaurants, tv, outdoors etc. They each use different noise programs and have different settings for wind etc. You can do a lot of the same thing using the app on your phone. I find the one setting to be inadequate for all surroundings. You might want to add at least one program for yours in the outdoor situation. If max wind setting is enabled it cancels other sounds. If your pleased with their performance just forget the buttons.
