I have been wearing Signia charge and go IX hearing aids for almost 2 years now. Before that I used Oticon opn for about 6 years. Ever since I began using the Signias, voices have sounded fuzzy/buzzy and unclear. It’s almost like voices are coming through a kazoo. I went to at least 10 follow up appointments to try to adjust them but my HIS has had no success. I hoped the buzzy sound would go away once I got used to the new hearing aids, but it has not. It makes it very difficult for me to understand speech - even with no background noise. I have moderate-severe hearing loss. Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions for hearing aid adjustments? Thank you for reading!
Makes me think of the time when I turned the Speech Recovery option on, and too high. It takes a certain frequency range and maps it onto a different (usually lower) frequency range. Can be a cool feature, but I did it wrong, and I heard myself (and everyone else) speaking with a lisp. (I don’t have a lisp!) If yours have been professionally set up then it’s probably because of something else, though…
The Signia connexx fitting software has a fitting assistant that includes a fix for this. Without seeing your audiogram and seeing the gain graph, I can’t say anything. My recommendation is to continue insisting, those HAs are expensive, any chance another audiologist can give your case a look ?
I experienced the kazoo sound with my aids and no adjustments seemed to work. When another audi changed the domes, the kazoo sound went away. Hope yours is an easy fix like this.
Thank you. I’ll mention this to my HIS the next time I see him. He is the only specialist working in his office so there is no one else to take a look at it. However, he does call Signia support sometimes to help work out problems.
Thanks for your response! I have tried so many different domes! With my level of hearing loss, I should be using power domes. However, my ear canals are so small that there are no Signia power domes that fit without causing pain. I don’t want to pay for expensive custom molds at this time so I’m making do with the open, vented domes.
Don’t do this, you know you need to be correctly fitted, but trying to get anywhere by being under fitted just isn’t going to work! Get the custom molds made which will fit your ear canal perfectly and get the required gain/fit to allow you to enjoy your HAs.
Post you audogram as this would be helpful for advice.
