I’m on my second day with DSL5 Pediatric. Previously DSL5 Adult, before that NAL-N2. Philips 9050s. It’s been a bit of trip. Honestly, who needs drugs. I’ve had a few false dawns on my hearing journey, so I won’t say too much just yet. There’s a new energy to the sound though. I mean that in a subjective sense. That’s just the way it feels. I’ve got volume at between -2 and -4 on the app, depending on the program, so I’m not sure it’s objectively louder. Before the change it was sitting on 0 all of the time. I thinking I’m getting more out of conversations with my wife and kids and I’m not running into any problem that would stop me from keeping up with it for a few weeks anyway. Well, transient sounds can be dramatic but my life is mostly quiet. I’ll keep you all posted.
Did you do this DIY or through Costco? If Costco, any pushback? If DIY did you use the audiogram from Costco or use Audiogram Direct? Thanks. Look forward to hearing more.
DIY and using Costco’s audiogram. I’ve got the original Costco settings saved. I can revert if I need to. I’ll probably email the Costco guy and let him know. He’ll find it amusing I think so long as I don’t bug him to fix my mistakes. He’d probably do a bit of that too within reason. He’s a decent guy. My one year anniversary is in October. I might see him in person then.
Thank you for your detailed reply. I did the measurement again without closing the ears. It is only a slightly different this way.
Now I am using a DSL based fitting with all modes except music having the higher 1-2k freq range values of the APD fitting. I am still new to all these DIY, but my ears can decide better if they like what they hear… and they actually do. The change to DSL was the bit I really needed, the sound is now more like what I had when I tested the Resound Vivias last month.
I’ve done exactly this, on my Marvels, Paradise and Lumity. I’m very happy with the results. I have:
APD (2 for Lumity)
- Calm Situation (with all noise reduction off) as startup
- Music, with DSL v5a Adult MPOs and Gains
- Speech in noise
- Autosense (3, 4, 5)
This is so much better for TV and Music, and a decent comprimise.
I’ve also set Media Speech and Media Music streaming to the DSL v5a settings.
The results feel really good, and probably best of both worlds, for me. I’m pretty sure, it’s not an identical fitting to DSL5, as @Bimodal_user hinted, there may be other things going on than just MPOs and Gains, but it’s certainly workable.
