Unilateral high frequency, hearing loss and feeling of fullness

Hello all! I am so happy to have found this group. I am 53 years old and I have always A mild feeling of fullness or congestion on my right ear for as long as I can remember but it’s been so mild.l it never bothered me.I suffer from a chronic runny nose. My sinuses always feel some sort of mild congestion. I have pretty significant TMJ.

For the past three weeks, my right ear has been feeling very full. I will have some time throughout the day where it doesn’t feel full at all and then sometimes where it feels totally blocked. I have a very mild buzzing in my right ear. I have never had trouble hearing, but I went to the ENT and he did a hearing test and it found my right ear to have mild High frequency hearing loss 6000-8000. I scored 100% on Word recognition and my low frequency hearing is totally fine.

He wants me to come back in a few months to do a repeat hearing test. What could this be? Thank you so very much! I really appreciate anyone’s time!

Maybe he want to see if the congestion is the cause of your hearing loss, or if it gets worse? I have the same sinus issues as you. I always have some level of congestion, and i can feel it to varying degrees in my ears. I have moderate-moderately severe hearing in the high frequencies. Personally i attribute my hearing loss to various infections i have had . I did have sinus surgury several years back, which seems to have reduced the number of infections i get. but i still have some level of congestion, continually. Back in december i had an infection in my left ear where my ear felt totally blocked. i could hear next to nothing in my left ear. When the infection cleared up. My hearing came back , but not fully. Now my left ear is worse than my right in regards to hearing loss.

Thank you so much for your response! I guess the thing that worries me is that it’s just happening in one year. But the high frequency hearing loss is very mild. I’m actually going today to get it my hearing retested before I get an MRI. Of course I worry about an acoustic neuroma
