Uneven sound L/R from phone

I’ve got new Philips 9050s after using Oticon Opn before. When I first got the 9050s, I am found that when my phone sends sounds like my “notification” sound (a low-pitched foghorn), the sound was very loud in my left ear and faint in my right. The same goes for the start-up sounds. I played some music and it seemed more even.

I went back to the fitter and he adjusted the bass levels on the phone accessory screen–I did not see exactly what the values were. He also put a new wax guard in the R aid. This made the foghorn more even, though not perfectly.

Today I streamed a different piece of music, a simple flute and piano piece. The piano & flute were clearly stronger on the left. I stuck the HAs into the opposite ear, and the L/R balance reversed, so I know the left aid is truly pumping out more volume.

Is there anything else I can or should do to define and identify what is going on here? Is there a good way for me to test the amplification levels for normal listening? The fitter I am working with seemed to be unsure of what to do last time, and I want to make sure I can give him useful info.

You haven’t said what phone you are using but look for a way to balance the output of your phone’s streaming to your aids the way it is done depends on your phone. I have do it for my INTENT1 aids with my Samsung S23 phone.

Good question, Chuck. I am using a Samsung S22. The hearing aids connect to it using the ASHA protocol. In the phone’s settings for the hearing aids, the volume is set to be equal on both sides.

I have also connected the aids to my Windows PC using an AudioClip (like an Oticon ConnectClip). I also hear the sound balance issue when playing this piano & flute music from the PC.

In the Bluetooth settings in the phone settings and connect and Bluetooth you will find your aids you can tell the settings to separate the aids for volume controls and then adjust them separately in the Bluetooth settings. That is what i have done until i get a chance to see my audiologist to get him to do some adjustments

But my aids and phone are capable of le audio which is working great since the September update from Samsung

Well, I got a handle on this the hard way. I had already been thinking about getting a Noahlink and doing some DIY experiments with the various noise and directionality settings. My intention was to wait until the aids were dialed in and working well, before I “touched” them at all with the Noahlink. But I finally went ahead and loaded the settings from the aids into my PC. What I found was that the dome type was set incorrectly on one side.

In some other thread here, a member urged everyone to get a printout of their software settings from their audiologist. I strongly agree. Even if you are not going to study up on what all of the options do, anyone should be able to check the model/level of the aid, the strength of the receiver, and the type of dome/mold.
