Trouble charging Rexton Reach w/ travel charger

I am having trouble charging one or both Rextons with the travel charger which was the only supplied charger. It may be a coinicidence but it started when I switched to custom molds. I have tried cleaning the contacts on both the charger and the hearing aids but nothing seems to help. Any advice would be appreciated.

I use the travel charger for my Rexton Reach HA’s, with power domes. I occasionally find that one of the HA’s doesn’t seem to “seat” adequately (I notice that the light on that side doesn’t stay on when the case is closed… or I find out the next day when that HA runs out of juice).

I find that fiddling with the receiver placement in its cubbyhole can make a difference. Perhaps your presumably larger molds are pushing up on the receiver wire. Maybe a folded up tissue in the top portion of the case can help keep the body of the HA pushed down onto the charging contacts.

Thank you! I will try stuffing them down as you suggest and will report back. My custom earmolds barely fil in the back space. I thought they might be pulling the h/aids off the contacts, so I tried hanging them outside but then I can’t completely snap the top down.

The lid on the travel charger does not need to be closed when charging the hearing aids.

I have the new Rexton Reach rechargable IIC INOX model. Same issue. SO FRUSTRATING.

I was about to send them in for repairs but I guess it’s not just me. Here’s what I do to ensure a proper charge each night:

  1. Clean the HA with a piece of TP. I have ‘wet’ wax and it gets everywhere. Pay special attention to the contacts on the HA and the charger.
  2. Place the charger on a flat surface, lid open.
  3. There is a delay in the charger registering the HA’s sometimes before the LED lights up. Be aware of this as you play around with seating them, especially if they connect/disconnect a bunch of times while you do so.
  4. Place one HA in until the LED lights up.
  5. Place the second one in. When properly seated; Both LEDs should start pulsing if properly connected until they both go off a the SAME TIME.
  6. If one of the LEDs does not light up, or they don’t go off at the same time (one of them earlier) it’s not charging. Play around with the one that went off first. Make micro adjustments to the seating until the LED comes on. This can be frustrating but play around with it. You might need to adjust the angle of the domes as they can touch the case.
  7. EDIT: In rare cases, I roll up one square of TP and place it between the ‘bad’ HA that refuses to connect and case’s top and close the lid (often it doesn’t close all the way). This forces the HA’s into the proper connection/angle to charge.
  8. When both LEDs finally come on and pulse, either leave the case open or gently close the top, avoiding the ‘snap’ of the case closing which might jostle the case. The lights should pulse and turn off at the same time.
  9. Don’t touch the case until charged. I leave it overnight.

This is terrible design. It’s not a ‘travel’ case. You cannot charge inside your pocket due to this issue. Apple airpod cases fully hold the shape of the earbuds in place, this case only has the magnets and they often hold them at the wrong angle. Dumb engineering with zero QA behind this…

Wow! Thank You! I will definitely give all of these great suggestions a try!

I also have some charging issues so I cleaned both the contacts on the aids and charger with alcohol and a Q tip and no more issues

I keep a kimtech tech wipe in my charging case. Immediately before inserting for charging, I give the contact end of each aid a quick wipe to help prevent problems down the line.

Thanks to all for the great advice, to which I would add that since I learned here that it will charge with the case open I am hanging the earmolds outside the case. That, and the other great suggestions received here, seems to have substantially reduced the problem.

The INOX uses a different charger that the one the OP mentioned.
I had the Active Pro, which uses a similar charger. Depending on the domes used, the aids may have issues connecting to the charging contacts. What surprises me is that this is an old design by Signia done in 2021 and they haven’t fixed the issue.

Somebody should come out with a generic hearing aid charger that could accommodate and work safely and effectively with most hearing aids, but of course that would defeat the industry custom for making users pay through the nose for every after-initial purchase accessory like tv streamers, clip-on microphones etc.

I think they decided that if the case will hold multiple recharge power without having to be plugged in for every recharge, they’ll call it a travel case. Never mind the fact that you apparently can’t charge your HAs with the case in your pocket, because contact is positional. Did they use magnetic charging contacts?

Actually Signia officially calls it “a case that offers charging on-the-go” . So yes , they do advertise them as a traveling device.

True, but I think they’re applying the term rather (no pun intended) loosely.

Correct, magnetic.

But they are a POS and the right side doesn’t line up even when magnetically connected. I push down/forward a millimeter and the connection is made. Just doesn’t sit flat most of the time and I can’t figure out why.
Just wondering why they didn’t properly QA these prior to release.

I purchased a used case (charger) on ebay to keep it on our boat for weekends and charge with the lid closed. I charge my aids at home with the ear buds outside of the case Lid open so the my dryer will work better. Regardless I need to keep all contacts clean for them to connect better.
