Tried Lexie B2+, moved up to Rexton Reach

New forum member. Was told by wife and daughter I needed my hearing checked back at the end of summer, but it took about two months to get a referral to an ENT. Test showed moderate high frequency loss, only a little comprehension loss in worse ear. I figured I’d do the free trial of the Lexie B2+ and they did help, but made things worse in noisy situations and were prone to distorting appliance/car tones and even some music (especially with bells). I couldn’t have them on when singing in choir. Battery life was fine, and I was adjusting well to having them in my ear once I figured out the different open domes to use.
I read this an other forums and researched online. My ENT would charge thousands on aids, but I read about COSTCO and made an appointment. Not easy to get there - too far away, takes up a whole afternoon - but worth it!
I was retested, similar results showing good hearing in low frequencies but then sloping down to moderate losses in high end. I tried the Rexton Reach and Philips 9050 in the store. Philips had the same crispness as the Lexie B2+, but I liked the smoother more natural sound of the Rexton. I went back a week later to pick up the Rexton Reach and they did the REM and set up programs, including the live music program which works well when singing.
The Rexton Reach is far more “civilized” or smoother than the Lexies. I’m in Automatic most of the time without serious distortion of most alert tones, and enjoying the ability to use the aids to get calls on my iPhone (Lexies did that too, but Lexies would block the keypad but the Rexton’s or whatever settings COSTCO helped me put in place allows the keypad while on calls).
I appreciate the support at COSTCO over the two appointments so far. I have another (follow up) scheduled - so another afternoon off from work to make the drive.
When I go back I’m going to ask that the volume is set higher on the Rexton Reaches. It starts at “8” by default but I never turn it down, I either leave it there in non-challenging situations when I didn’t need the aids anyway, or I turn it up to watch TV or listen to quiet voices. I’d rather they start louder, especially as they revert to default every time I switch modes. I’m also going to ask that T-Coil is enabled.
I got a Noahlink 2 for Christmas, so I’ll be ready if I want to move into DIY.

I had similar experience, went from KS9 that were 5 yrs old to Jabra Enhance Pro, it was way too tinny, bright … traded them in for Rexton Reach and love them. Auto mode is fine, no need for fancy phone app.
