I’m getting hearing aids next week. During my initial test, the Audi found wax in my left ear, and said it wasn’t in the way and impacting my hearing, but was bad enough that it was worth it to go to my primary doctor and have it cleaned out before picking up my new hearing aids. I saw my Dr. today and the amount of wax out of my left ear was quite a bit more than I expected, and pretty gross. He didn’t see any wax in my right ear, and didn’t do anything to it other than look in it. I’ve always had ringing in my ears, but not so much that unless i’m sitting in a quiet room i even notice is. Tonight however the ringing in my right ear is much worse than I ever remember it being. Is this somehow related to having wax cleaned out of my left? That doesn’t make sense to me, but it also seems like it would be too big of a coincidence to not at least wonder.
Not likely to be related to the wax issue but could just be that you are more focused on your hearing at the moment. It may well improve eventually with HAs. Sometimes it can increase if your hearing is worse. Most of us notice it more in quiet environment - silence is the enemy and a bit of background noise along with something to occupy ones attention help. Thinking about it also draws ones attention to it and can make it appear worse.
Doubt it’s related to earwax. Tinnitus isn’t caused by mechanical issues with your ears, generally seems to be “all in your head.” I agree with Psocoptera, you’re probably very focused on your hearing since you’re getting aids soon and that is causing your tinnitus to act up. Try downloading some nature sounds or something for the time being to listen to when it acts up. Hopefully the aids give you improvement.
I wouldn’t rule out the wax removal having a temporary effect. The cleaning could have irritated the canal. Tinnitus can be affect by physical changes, blood pressure, whatever. For many it is a variable sound at times. I could always tell when a Meniere’s attack was about to happen.
