I am looking at buying the Oticon Intent 2. I regularly wear moulded filtered ear plugs to protect my hearing when I am in loud environments like bars etc. but due to my hearing loss I struggle to hear people talk, especially when I have ear plugs in.
I am wondering if there is a way to have both open domes for normal situations (my low frequency hearing is ok) and then switch to custom moulded domes for noisy situations? Would my audiologist be able to set up different profiles so I can switch between the different attachments? I was thinking the moulded domes would have the dual advantage of both blocking out harmful volume but also still letting me hear what people are saying, especially with the help of the noise cancelling technology on the oticon intent.
Thanks, so just to clarify, is it not really possible to switch out between different domes on the fly? Is that something that your audiologist would need to do?
physically it very easy to change … but different domes or earmolds make a difference in the sound quality and or volume and feedback and should be programmed with the mfg. software.
Although hearing aid earmolds are not rated as hearing protection, they would certainly plug you up more than open domes. Switching out domes for earmolds is fairly simple so long as you know what you’re doing and have the right tools. Just make sure to get MicroMolds or LiteTips. They are sleeved earmolds that can be removed unlike Microshells, which have the speaker embedded in the casing.
I think that should be possible as long as your audi does different REM adjustments for each program, one for open domes and one for molds - I have oticon reals and I have one program for open bass domes and one for double-vented bass domes. in the past I used to switch back and forth between them, but I now stay with the bass domes. kind regards, oliver
