I’ve been wearing a starkey Genesis for 1.5 weeks. I notice that the sound when streaming a phone call (or Facetime, etc) from my iphone often sounds funny.
Instead of the other caller sounding like they are in the middle of my head, it sounds like they are both my left and right ear. I am trying to understand the cause and wonder if others see this too.
It almost sounds like stereo speakers that were connected “out of phase” (reverse polarity from each other) if you remember from hi-fi days.
During a recent call, I switch to some airpods and those sounded as expected (like the caller was in the middle of my head). But when I switched back, got this odd left/right sound.
Could it be delay being somewhat different to each hearing aid? Or, some kind of effect of the mic input being mixed in (it might have been a bit better when I changed the settings to mute the mics during the call).
The other oddness is if I stream a video from the youtube app (for example), I don’t get this effect.
I’m learning how to best use these for phone calls; maybe over the ear headset on top of the hearing aids is a better option (tried that and it seemed to work well). I also found some insight to improve sound for the other party since the single omnidirectional mic pics up a lot of background noise (for this, I found the “voice isolation” setting in Apple products to be helpful).
Anyway, would like to understand what I am experiencing.
