From reading the doc and using the ReSound Multi-mic, it looks like the Philips AudioClip won’t act as an omni-directional mic to pick up voices around a table, and the Multi-mic doesn’t enable hands-free cell phone use.
Thanks philbob57. Good feedback. I am able to do hands free cell phone with my iphone today. If I use the multi mic, will that inhibit hands free cell phone use?
I’m not entirely sure what ‘hands free’ entails, since none of my phones or HAs up to now met the ASHA standard, and I’m just happy to hear my calls stream to my Jabras.
I’ve disliked the iphone from the day it was announced, but it looks like they’re better than Android for integration with phones. My wife’s SE (2020) certainly controls my Jabras better than my Galaxy S20 5G does. My cell phone calls feed into the HAs, but I see nothing in the doc that says I can control the phone with the aids. When my budget allows, I may switch to IOS. I’m hoping ReSound fixes the app before I get fed up.
I use the mics from the aids when I’m on the phone. That may be a relatively new feature.
The Multi-mic has to be turned on to do anything, and it has to be plugged in to stream from a device. I can stream music from the phone without the Multi-mic.
It can be used with bluetooth as well, also just having the Multi-mic beside any tv or stereo speakers allows streaming to the HAs.
I ran into an apparent connectivity problem with my Philips 9030 last night. I was at church in a small meeting. Costco had set it up with 2 programs: all around and restaurant. I was in all around and could not switch to restaurant. The app did not even show that as an option. I could still adjust volume using iphone app but no access to other program.
There was no wifi in the room but when I got home, it showed both programs. I turned wifi at home off and it still worked. So wifi is apparently not the culprit.
Any idea what the problem was? It is working normally now.
@jpinkard. Although in previous iOS or Android versions, ReSound used to strongly recommend against force-killing the Smart 3D app, whenever the 3D app is unresponsive for me (not often), I usually just force-kill the app in iOS and relaunch it. That usually restores a better-behaved version of the app. If that doesn’t work, I’ll try rebooting my iPhone (turning it off, then back on).
Thanks Jim. Since it mysteriously reappeared, no need to do that now. But I appreciate the suggestions and will try them if it recurs.
Thanks for this report. I’m just starting with the Jabra Enhance Pros. After wearing only Bose Hearphones for 3 years, I feel like a beginner (despite 20 yrs. and a number of traditional HAs in my past). I expect to make these work for me, but it’s not seamless.
In addition to using the Multi-Mic to pick up slightly distant sounds better, and around the neck of a companion while walking in windy situations, I can place it near the TV audio and use it instead of a ‘TV streamer’. Works very well. There are several volume adjustments. I have not yet got it connected to my new Jabra Enhance 10s. I used it a lot w/ my older ReSounds and still do, as necessary.
mystuart, How long does the Multi-mic’s battery last in that application?
Thanks.
I’m afraid I cannot answer your question I only watch TV for an hour or 90 min. at a time (per day). But generally it’s been my experience that the nightly charge gives the Multi Mic quite a period of use. This application wouldn’t tax it more than simply hanging around the neck. And I use it from time to time, not every day or for hours at a time.
I occasionally use mine that way but do prefer the TV Streamer for better listening experience.
I also dont know how long the battery lasts, but i have used it streaming my computer or at work conferences for 4-5hrs at a time and the battery easily lasts that long, at least on a full charge.
Multi-Mic:
I find it very handy for different things. Just think of it as an external mic. A friend can clip it to their clothing and you can hear them extra well while walking together. I also had good luck clipping it to the speaker when attending any kind of guided tour–such as bird-watching with a leader. He wears the mic and I can hear better than anyone! Ditto, at a lecture in a hall/room, place your Multi-Mic up front near the speaker (on lectern or nearby surface), return to your seat, and you’ll hear the speaker better than anyone else.
