I have pair of Starkey Wi i110 RIC hearing aids that I have owned for just over three years. During that time, they have been back to Starkey numerous times for repairs, and the reason for the issue is ALWAYS “moisture”. My aids have recently started changing volume/microphones opening/closing randomly without any change in envrionment. Also, have noticed
“crackling” or “popping” sound frequently, and for no apparent reason. Audi has tried to adjust, sent back to Starkey, and they come back supposedly “completely rebuilt”, but with the same issues. I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing similar issues with these aids.
Yes, I too have had several issues with the Wi 1110 & also the Audibel model “Range Silver.” Every time I kept going back to my Dispenser the Audi made me feel that I was the only one that ever had these problems with both sets of Aids.
Thx to this Forum I learned that others also had moisture problems with this series too.

Hi,
I’ve got the older WI-110 aids. I bought these used and so have no warranty. What I find is that I get about 2 years on them and then moisture causes me to send them in to Starkey for repair/replacement. I’m not sure what they do, but about $200/aid fixes the problem and gets them back to me with a warranty card good for less than a year. I just figure in humid FL, that’s part of the cost of having electronics in your ear. Next time out I’ll try to get moisture resistant aids, if I can find them. I do find that I can clear them up sometimes by cleaning the contacts. I use alcohol, but I’m sure there are better cleaners. What I find is that where the battery sits, sludge collects and unseen, more sludge collects on the contact points for the battery. I keep them in a dry and store at night, but still have this problem
For the sludge on the contact use eraser material. It can be cut to size.
I have the 110’s now for 1 yr. Moisture is an issue particularly going from an air conditioned car to the hot humid FL air. I have had 1 or 2 times when aid quit on me. Solution was to put aid in glove compartment and with car parked in the sun, ha dried sufficiently to return to normal (after ~8 hrs)If I walk in the rain and 1 raindrop hits one at the right angle, forget it, it will stop working until thoroughly dried. I also had the receiver tip of each ha break off requiring return to Starkey for replacement. I have not had the crackling and popping sounds you refer to although my guess is, that will happen at some point. My gut tells me the Halos are quite sensitive, we know the moisture resistance is poor, the bluetooth wifi reception is finicky, and I cannot help but question their longevity potential with only 1 yr on my set now.
I have had the Wi110s for about 5 years. They have been soaked with both sweat and rain and I have never had an issue. I do put them in the Dri&Store every couple of days but the only failure I have had was a RIC a couple of years ago. Actually, the RIC itself did not fail. The tube broke where it attaches to the receiver.
