I had been using Oticon Hearing Aids for about 10 years prior to getting my Starkey Edge units about two weeks ago. The Oticons, regardless of model, were far more user friendly than the Starkeys have been. I’m not saying that the Starkey’s aren’t as good or better, but the app was simpler on the Oticons than the Starkey app has proven to be. The Oticon app required that I tapped it and then selected the TV streamer and I was connected. The Starkey has been a very steep learning curve of remembering the steps needed to connect and no matter how many times I’ve done it I still stumble.
I’ll also say the Starkey’s seem to be far more sensitive (My audiologist mentioned they were “more aggressive”) and finding the fine tuning needed has been an experience as well, but alternately the Starkey’s do seem to be more effective at their job.
As time goes by I’ll probably post my progress. So far I’m reasonably satisfied with the Starkey’s. I received these due to issues with my Oticon units and streaming the TV and phone. I demanded replaceable batteries (we’ll leave that discussion alone!) and Starkey was the recommended alternative. I do use the VA and they do have seemingly competent audiologists.
