I have been trialling the Starkey Edge AI ITE, but reluctantly decided to return them for several reasons, so am now going to try the Signature CIC. Starkey have said that they can’t make the IIC due to the size/configuration of my ear canals. Has anyone got any experience of these or feedback they can offer - good or bad. I would be interested to know.
Sorry, I can not answer your question, but could you tell us why you returned the Edge AI? I did also, but not sure it was the best decision.
I was so excited to get these aids, but then so disappointed. When they first arrived at my audiologist office, they were made quite long and she felt they wouldn’t fit, so she had them remade. Then when I tried them, one fell out repeatedly and the other was working loose - so we ended up going back to a remake of what was sent in the first place.
Between trying the first set and that first remake, the aids developed a horrible whining noise whe making phone calls. My audiologist asked me if the whining was a deal breaker and I said it was. She put a lot of effort into trying to work out what was causing it and spoke to Starkey tech support - who said they had had other similar reports and they thought it was due to an IOS update which occurred between the first and second pair. Starkey came up with some sort of fix which reduced the volume of the whine and suggested a further remake and a factory reset, firmware update etc.
In the meantime I discovered that I was unable to use the landline, I have small ear canals, which means that the aids bulge out of my ears. If I tried to angle the phone so it would not press on my aids control button and turn the aid off, I was unable to hear the caller.
With the final remake the right aid still falls out of my ear on occasions and the whining is still there. I know I could have the left aid remade without the button, but if I can’t hear the caller it’s no good. I am disappointed.
Hi, I have been trialing/demoing the Starkey Edge AI 24s, and so far I like them. I don’t have the ITE version, but I use the RIE, and they put these retention straps in the ear canal so they don’t fall off. The other reason why I like them is the Edge+ mode. It can calculate the environment and adjust to the sound that works for you. I have tried others like Widex Allure, which I also like, but I cannot pair them to my computer. I have a lot of online meetings, so it is important to me. Widex Allure has the least delay. I have tried Phonak Audeo Infinio l90s, and those sound boring/dull, while Widex Allure and Starkey Edge AI sound slightly brighter. For phone calls, Phonak Audeo Infinio and Widex Allure both sound fine to me. Starkey has a little delay, but since yours is whining, I am assuming that because the receiver is popping out of the ears, they need to be snugged into the ear canals, which is when the retention is needed. The retention is like a zip tie that goes into your ear. I hope that helps.
The receiver is not popping out of my ears. These are ITE aids. I first tested one aid on my husband, he could also hear the whine, but as his hearing is better than mine he heard it differently. My audiologist could also hear the noise, so it’s the aid not how I am wearing it. Thanks for your input.
I bought my first hearing aids, the Starkey Evolv AI, 2 1/2 years ago. They were supposed to last 3 to 5 years. I went to Atlantic Hearing in Ormond Beach where my medical doctor sent me. Big mistake! I spent $7,398 and now only have one good aid. People who have had aids for years tell me that most manufacturers have a 3 year warranty. It says something similar on Starkey’s website but a call to them says it depends. I had paid for a 2 year warranty not knowing this. They did replace the left aid about a year ago because, as Atlantic Hearing said, it was a humidity problem. Yesterday I went to Atlantic Hearing and they put the aid in their “dehumidifier” due to the same problem. (I only perspire on the left side of my face & had taken it out as soon as I felt the perspiration start) I put it in. The static was gone. Ten minutes down the road the static was back and I couldn’t hear. I do not recommend Starkey hearing aids or Atlantic Hearing in my area of Florida. I feel there should be a fix for this problem other than spending $3,699 every couple of years. I do not have profound hearing loss.
Thanks very much for the info. I did in fact buy the Signatures and returned the Edge AI ones. I feel a lot more comfortable with them even though I have had to forfeit Bluetooth. I have got a 5 year warranty included in the price I paid. Due to my medical condition I don’t sweat, which is good news for my hearing aids, but makes it difficult to deal with hot weather. It’s also not unduly humid for much of the year here so fingers crossed that they will be ok.
Don’t waste time with these types of clinic, go straight to Costco as they have the best prices in town, plus only sell the premium models, you’ll only be out of pocket 1600 instead of the outrageous 7k!
