Starkey Edge AI Experience

By me it lasts around 22-24 hours.
I intend on trying out Sphere in about another 3 weeks, now I am still with Starkey mRIC

I can’t tell you how good it is compared to the sphere mode but I can tell you that Edge mode works.
I have distortion in my left ear. It’s especially a pain in noise. When I use Edge mode in noise I can communicate.

If possible, test the hearing aids in very noisy environments like bus or train stations, shops, and cafes. Try talking to people to assess their performance in noisy conditions. I believe Starkey has an advantage due to its superior chip, which can handle demanding listening situations and last all day. Phonak’s sphere option, while effective, is limited to 8 hours per day to avoid draining the battery.

you say you haven’t decided if (you’re) going to keep them. What will hold you back?

I’ve bought them.
I like them.
Originally it was going to be the price.
I had a hard limit.

You are correct on your assumption. I have the Starkey Edge AI 24 and the battery is very good even with Edge Mode+.

Just looking for my first hearing aids and was considering the Edge AI. Are you using the mRIC R or the RIC RT model?

mRICR
I do not have the telecoil.

Thanks. There are lots of places with telecoils here in the UK. Not even sure at the moment if it’s something I need to consider. The Starkey data sheet does show the RT having a longer battery life than the mRICR. Hearing test tomorrow. I’ll start my learning.

Where I live south east Louisiana I’m not aware of any venue for a telecoil use.
I’ve never seen the sign.
They do have Auracast so I’m hopeful I get to use it eventually.

I’ve ordered the Edge AI RT. Should get them in a week or so. I’ll see how they go.

Having looked at it a bit more, hearing loops are more common here than I thought. Its part of Building Regulations that assistive hearing systems have to be considered/installed. For example, Tesco & Sainsbury (large supermarket chains) have hearing loops installed in their stores. I think the US has something similar in the 2010 ADA standards but doesn’t seem to cover places like checkouts.

I hope the Starkey’s work out for you.

@freezerman404 , do you know if Starkey Edge AI requires a binaural setting to achieve its full potential?

For example, Phonak StereoZoom/StereoZoom 2.0 requires it to engage a total of 4 mics (2 from each side).

Spheric Speech Clarity needs only one microphone on one side, but Phonak managed to give it some two-microphone directivity benefits.

I’m not really up on that stuff.
I do know that when I had the restaurant program my audiologist said it could be set directional.
Each aid has two mics.
They appear to be next to each other.
Other than that, I don’t know.

There is YouTube HearingTracker review by Matthew Allsop.

Thanks I’ll look at it.

I forgot to clarify why I asked the question. If someone (like me) is SSD/assymetric has a CI one side, a Sphere could be a better option if the Starkey Edge AI has binaurally-dependent features.

I am unsure about people mentioned above who do not have CI—whether a monaural Sphere is better than Infinio R + CROS, or whether Starkey Edge AI has CROS.

The Starkey Edge Ai RIC RT has CROS.

Thanks for the Starkey datasheet! I must admit it has more information than Phonak’s similar documents.

Google Pixel works both ways? Talking and listening? My Samsung 22+ only works with listening and the phone has to still be used for talking? Thinking of getting a Pixel. I had one several generations ago and it had trouble with 5G for a few weeks.
