I don’t think the adjustment made to “calm” settings triggered the Spheric program, it was modifued to enhance speech at lower thresholds. I also use the calm setting on my phone when watching tv. It makes the TV volume louder and speech is much clearer. While I still use closed caption, I don’t have to rely on it to understand everything. Truly a game changer. For those in Maryland I recommend Kevin Seborg at Beltone in Pasadena MD. He spent a lot time getting the settings right. I was referred to him by ZipHearing.com.
I hate autosense, I disable it at the 1st opertunity. Then again I hate all AI in hearing aids unless I’ve specifically asked it to do something for me
As for the difference in TV and music: Music has less noise reduction features on by default and also the speech enhancer I.E. boost soft sounds turned off. It also has a fast attack and slow release time depending upon what frequencies it thinks are overloading the system. EQ profile is generally quite flat. tV is quite similar, but seems to put more emphasis on speech overall including boosting softer sounds and pulling speech out of background noise. which makes sense when you think about it.
EQ seemed to be more scued towards speech freqs although granted it’s really not easy to tell when you listen to them side by side.
They both of course differ significantly to calm situation which seems to boost more at the top end whilst easing off the lows and mids, adding soft speech enhancer and some noise reduction. Having said that I agree that because of the way it’s set up you can really hear that machine noise flaw. I think truthfully you can always hear it, but it’s just that it sounds more balanced as a noise when music mode is selected. less hissy and more shushy if that makes any sort of sense. The shushing sounds more like a natural sound where as the hissing sounds less natural.
Also remember if you have any sort of sound expansion or boost soft sounds on which the calm program does, it grabs the background sound and pulls it up louder than it should be. which is why if you sit next to a fridge you will hear the fridge start to creap up. If you sit in a room with no sound, the HA’s will go looking for sound and then you think the hiss is getting louder because essentially bits of the gain are being turned up at different freqs whilst it searches for a noise to boost.
No one will tell you this BTW, it’s just what I’ve observed from trying lots of hearing aid models.
My beef with autosense is it doesnt detect music. In my car it doesnt, nor at home. I have to select it.
