Speech in noise settings

My Jabra Enhance Pro 20’s do a reasonable job of reducing background and enhancing speech. The problem I have is that it enhances ALL the speech around me so that I hear a loud conversation 20 feet behind me but don’t hear the soft-speaking person 5 feet in front of me! The Jabra app doesn’t have any directionality control to give me some choice who I am listening to. Other than Signia, are there other HA’s I should look at to combine those two features?

All assastance is appreciated.

I’m doing the Jabra Pro 20’s as well. Look for a program called Hear in Noise. That was the one that superceded all the other front focus programs. Allegedly they took the best out of all the other focus programs. It should be in there unless someone has removed it. You can see how many programs are in there by doing a long press on the up button on the aids. It’ll cycle through the programs. 1 chime is All Around, 2 chimes is the next program, and if you do it again and go back to a single chime, good chance you have All Around as program 1 and Hear in Noise as program 2.

Oticon Intent is amazing with speech in noise.

What you described for your Jabra hearing aids is exactly the same as with my Whisper hearing aids, which have AI and a DNN. They are great with speech in noise - except when the background noise itself is speech.

This is exactly the issue that Oticon and Signia are endeavoring to address with their latest designs which attempt to focus on the speaker who is the priority for the person wearing the hearing aids rather than any of the other speakers in the environment.

Thank you for the quick response. I use the “hear in noise” program as my default and it works well but the front focus seems very wide, even thought programmed to its narrowest setting. Conversation from behind me overwhelms the front focus. And then there are the situations, like in a car, where I want to be able to focus solely to my right…the search continues!

Marc,
One more item. I’ve read about people giving up before trying all available options. The Jabra Pro 20 has a ton of tunability, I’ve just now managed to get a handle on mine. This discussion brought to mind a video I watched.Hidden Features

You’re posting in the Self Fitting area, so you might give this a try before giving up. I did all of this, but my old Android won’t work with the Jabra Pro 20’s. Bummer.
