Specsavers Advance and Bluetooth TVs

Hi,another first post,I’m sure this has been covered previously. We have a 10+ year old TV which is fine, but does not have Bluetooth. On the basis that I have read previously on the net that a BT TV should connect to BT hearing aids,I visited Currys yesterday to see what is on offer. The sales guy tried 2 different TV’s and neither recognised the aids,my having followed the instructions to power down, then back on,to activate pairing mode. The aids are Specsavers Advance, and connect via BT to my iphone OK…Any help appreciated,Rod

If you are otherwise happy with the TV you already have, perhaps you can still do what you want. Does it have a USB port? There are several options for that if so, and if not, you can still go with other devices like an Apple TV box. I don’t know from you saying supersavers what white label you were sold, so I can’t advise on what would be best to connect your aids.

There are several types of ‘BT’ - BT (sometimes called 'classic), BT Low Energy, and BT Low Energy Audio. To avoid premature obsolescence, look for a TV with output via the USB port, which will allow using a dongle to connect your aids to the TV, or with BT LEA compatibility.

Unless you have Phonaks. Phonaks support BT and should connect to any TV that supports BT - that’s ‘BT classic’.

Like Apple TV, at least some Roku devices allow connection to your HAs, but that may shut off sound from other outputs,

Depends on the original manufacturer of your Advance aids. If they are a Sonova ( Phonak) clone then they may well connect. If they are a Resound or Signia clone, they won’t connect without a intermediary device.

Hm. What brand of HA are you using? Why not just buy a TV Connector unit that plugs directly into your 10-yr-old TV? You’d want a TOSLINK port on the back of the TV, and typically connectors are sold with various cables to enable direct plug-in to the TV.

Once you get the connector device (e.g., Phonak TV Connector, Roger On iN mic) connected to your TV, you would just pair + connect your aids to that connector device.

That is how I watch anything from any source in our home theatre set-up. We have a separate receiver and Roku, AppleTV, etc., can all be used for programs.

As @1Bluejay mentioned. A tv streamer to suit your Advance aids is available from Specsavers £229.
