Single sided loss - what are the recommended aids these days for a new user?

Understood. But when did they say that to you? Guidelines change; I had not been qualified in 2011, and 1.5 years later, with the same results of hearing tests, I finally was.

The audiologist may suspect that, but it isn’t for sure. I think it’s worth a try to stimulate it, but YMMV. There are opinions and research suggesting that stimulating the ear as long as possible and keeping the auditory nerve activated improves outcomes after later cochlear implantation in that ear.

CROS is an option if HA on that ear provides no benefit.
My opinion only, but I think consider first stimulating that ear with a rather cheap hearing aid fitted with REM, and give yourself some time to get used to it and a chance to take advantage of brain plasticity.

If that would be unusable, try BiCROS.

IIRC, AmpCROS has much less flexibility in programming than BiCROS… There is a Dr. Cliff video on YouTube about different kinds of CROS.
