Signia Silk 7 IX charge&go

The two hearing aids are linked to each so that they can function properly. Does anyone know what the linking method is? It cannot be by bluetooth as the aids do not have this. Is another wireless method used? If not, how are they linked?

I would guess Near Field Communication (NFC). It could be something else proprietary, but I don’t know. Educated guess.

I think it’s NF as well, seems the most obvious method.

Thanks to you both, WhiteHat and tenkan. I suspected it might be NFC but a slight doubt I had is that the normal range for NFC is 4 cm or less while aid to aid distance would be somewhat more than this. Maybe the 4 cm is not correct. If it is NFC, that then makes it a wireless type connection, I think?

Yeah it’s something like this, this is version 2.0, I think we’re up to 4.0 now so faster and more data transfer.

So, that means that electromagnetic radiation at those frequencies is constantly going from aid to aid through my brain. I know the energy of the radiation is very low and has been declared safe. The reason I started this post is that on days that I wear my aids, my sleep (not wearing the aids at sleep time, obviously) can be seriously disrupted. I thought the issue might be due to Bluetooth, but I have now changed to the non-Bluetooth Signia Silk and am currently testing my sleep patterns using, and not using, the aids by day. I have about another 2 weeks of trialling to do yet.

I trialled the Silks 5 IX recently. I didn’t know they talk to each other (maybe only the 7 IX do?). I don’t remember having my sleeping pattern disrupted.

I do have the same concern of having a pair of electronic devices right next to my brain communicating wirelessly. Experts saying it’s safe doesn’t diminish my concerns. Not many experts can be trusted nowadays.

To clarify: First, my sleep disruption did not occur when I was using the Signia Silk hearing aids, but using another good quality brand altogether. Secondly, the linking between the two Signia Silk aids is, according to the hearing aid manufacturers, via NFMI, not quite the same as NFC.

All of them have this tech, called e2e, it’s quite old too and predates modern BT streaming features.
It was used to program some devices too (still is I think, in some cases).

Thanks to all for your contributions. I will no longer be posting to this topic.
