Show Time for new upcoming 2025 Smart Glasses

Well it appears we might finally have two Tech heavyweights fighting it out over new upcoming smart glasses that offer caption display for English to English. Meta Sept. 17, will be coming out with display smart glasses that are rumored in the right-side lens. It appears that the display will offer translation captioning, but also offer English to English captioning/texting. I’ll believe it when I see it, and then wait for reviews. There are pros and cons to having one lens captioning versus both lenses.

Then sometime this Fall, Google is coming out with Android XR smart glasses with a lens display, also rumored to offer English to English captioning. Google has not rejected that rumor but again, I’ll believe it when I see it. I’m looking forward to learning about the two different smart glasses. Meta might have a jump since it’s been making smart glasses since 2022, though this will be the first time with a viewing display. Then again, Google might have the more attractive glass frames, since Meta’s Sept. glasses are rumored to be somewhat bulkier than previous Ray-Ban Meta frames.

It appears both Meta and Google glasses will function working with a smartphone, and I assume having some tie-in with the cloud.

Meta glasses are rumored to start around $800, with additional cost for prescription lenses. Google has not yet come out with a price quote for its glasses. The only drawback I see going forward is that whatever you buy today might be seriously upgraded two years down the road, since technology is changing so rapidly.
