Should I repair or replace my Oticon Opn 3?

My 5 year Oticon OPN 3s have started giving me significant troubles. Control button on right aid does not work, they will not connect to phone app, and constantly play little tunes, going from right to left. Should I send for repair or replace. If replace, what do you recommend? Thank you.

It all depends on what you can afford. There are newer and updated aids available for sure. If you have an Audi that you work with see what it would cost to repair them. Depending on if you have any insurance coverage maybe new aids.

First find out what repairs might be needed and cost. If low cost, I’d get them repaired even if you are ready to upgrade - it is always a good idea to have a good back up pair!

Don’t know if you’re a DIY person or not. But another option if you’re a DIY person is to buy another set of OPN 3 (or 2 or 1) from eBay and reprogram it yourself, if their cost is not that much more than the repair cost. With the More out for 5 months already, I’d imagine that the cost of the original OPNs must have fallen by quite a bit.

It’d cost you about $180 to buy the NoahLink Wireless to do your own programming, but that’d be a good investment for all your future aids no matter what brand/model because the NoahLink Wireless is compatible with most of them.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond. I appreciate your help.

Search for hearing aids repair on eBay. I remember that there are repair outfits on eBay for around $120 to $150 per aid.

Thanks Volusiano, I have ordered the NoahLink Wireless and will give it a try. Have had the previous wired setup, but moved and cannot find them. I tried my hand at programming two to three years ago. Will have to do a lot of reading of old threads and studying again to become adequate. My OPNs have stopped misbehaving and are working as they should. I have been wanting to take a shot at fine tuning my frequencies for some time. I have gotten away from this forum for a while and now realize that I miss following all you folks. Thanks to all.

I’m not sure if you can do firmware update on the OPN via the NoahLink Wireless or not, though. You may need the old wired interface for this. But at least with the Oticon More and going forward, the NoahLink Wireless is the ONLY compatible interface for programming the More, so I presume that wireless firmware update via the NoahLink Wireless is possible.

The old OPN models haven’t had any more firmware update for a long time now, and most likely won’t anymore, so it shouldn’t be a big deal for the OPN anymore if you lost your wired interface. However, if you buy replacement OPNs from eBay and they’re not on the latest firmware update, then that’ll become an issue for you, unless the seller can tell you what firmware update that device is on.

I know my VA Audi had to do my OPN1 aids with the cable hookups. But OPNS1 aids were done wirelessly.
