Seeking advice on charging

Hello all,

My father uses a Phonak pair of hearing aids with a charging base (rechargable). It requires 5 volts and a minimum of 500 amps to charge. The set comes with a USB charging cable for the charging base, and slots into a USB plug socket for the power source. He charges using the mains in his house.

I would like to know if it possible to charge the hearing aids by plugging the USB cable into the cigarette lighter charging point in a vehicle (for a trip in a motor-home). This is typically what I do with a mobile phone, for example. I am almost certain this is possible as the USB charging port says 5V 500 Amps written on it, but my father is too worried about damaging his hearing aids to try it. Can anyone offer any reassurance?

Are you talking about plugging the charger into a USB car charger? If so, should be fine.

The general rule on charging is the charger should have the stated capacity or more, but never less capacity. For example, if the devjce requires 1 amp for charging, and the charger has a 2 amp capacity, it will work fine.

Yes. That’s a great help, thanks.

Surely you mean 500 mA, not 500 amps. That would melt all known cables…
