ROGER ON 2 versus 3

What is the difference between Roger On Version2 and Version3 ? I have the spheres, will I be happy with the older version ? Is it performance, sound, feature, range, compatibility ?

Also - is there any advantage to the iN models of the Roger ON, as in Roger On iN V2 . I read that is for a Marvel product…
Thought my Sphere is the modern Super Hero…
So confused if I want to get a used item…
Is the V2 adequate, and do I need the iN designation?
Trying to google, but figure the best experts are right here!

I think the V3 has unlimited Roger receiver licenses, while V2 needs to be reset to get more. I don’t know if that was changed with the firmware update, but I think all the other features of V3 were bestowed on V2 by the firmware upgrade. Free to download and not too difficult to apply with a PC.

The iN models of the roger line can install licenses on their own. The non-in models don’t come with licenses, they must be purchased separately and installed with a device that loads them into the Roger Direct receiver in the Marvel/Paradise/Lumity/Infinio generations. If you don’t have the installer, you either need to find a practice that has one, or buy one yourself… The licenses and installer aren’t cheap.

@IGZO. As @WhiteHat said you need the iN model because it has licenses installed. If you just want to try one I will send you a Roger On in v1 free. It does not have a working display so, at least initially, you would need to use the display on the MyRoger app. Message me if you are interested.
edit: I bought five of these for “parts only” on EBay. I have giver three to forum members and have two left.

No difference unless you want to pair your roger to more than 1 pair of hearing aids (which is unlikely). Otherwise, the V3 has a more scratch resistant casing. The V3 comes ready with a new mic mode but the V2 just needs a firmware update to have that same feature. All in all, get the V2 as it’s cheaper and will be phased out soon (unless you think you’ll need the extra scratch resistance).

Unless you have backup hearing aids.

The license count on v2 can be reset, however. I forget whether it is Target or the upgrader, but the license count inside the Roger can be reset to two after it has already installed its licenses in a pair of HAs.

In addition to what @whiteHat said, You can pair the Roger to several hearing aids. I have my Roger On iN V1 paired to my Sphears and to two sets of backup hearing aids. In addition you can “connect” the Roger to more than one set of hearing aids at the same time (hearing aids can only be connected to one Roger at a time)

Licence count can be reset using the Sonova updater program (not Target) but each instance of the software only has 5 pairs of licences that the clinician can give at his/her discretion. You can relatively easily transfer the licences from your primary to your spare aids by first transferri g them from the primary aids to the Roger, then from the Roger to the spare aids and save yourself $500. Of course if you’ve lost your primary aids it’s a different story. It all depends on how much your willing to pay for unlimited licences.

Slightly off-topic, but it does involve the Roger On in V2 and license transfers.
I have 2 licenses in my Infinios and installed two recovered licenses (via the Roger Upgrader app) into my wife’s Infinios.
Meanwhile, I recovered an additional 2 X licences via resetting the Roger On in. When I switched on the Roger on in mic in a restaurant, My Wife yelled and covered her ears in pain. She did not like the volume at all.
So I tried to move the licenses back from her aids into the Roger On mic, but the transfer got blocked. I am guessing that is because the licence numbers/codes are the same as the recovered ones in the Roger on Mic Ver 2. In the meantime, we just unpaired the Bluetooth from her HAs and the mic.

The license transfer process moves the licenses to an empty spot. If you recovered licenses in the Roger and have not used them there would not be an empty spot to transfer the licenses back to. Suggest you have your Audi turn the Roger volume down in your wife’s aids using the fitting software

all this talk of licenses…
are the liceses being used so that multiple persons wearing each their own instruments, can hear through the same Roger On ? Or is are the licenses so that you can use them with different aids at different times? Is a license for an individual hearing aid or for a set of hearing aids?
If I buy a new device does it come with licenses included?
How much are licenses?

Is the firmware needed to upgrade the V2 unit to V3 function - available somehow to DIYers ?

I’m sorry. Thanks for the info. My mind was a bit muddled. I thought I recalled that the Mic could hold 5 licenses.
The confusing multiplicity of Phonak accessories and the various flavours of Roger Mics and receivers or licences and which is compatible with what is mind-blowing.

The licenses give a single hearing aid the ability to connect to Roger devices (type 03) and educational environment systems (type 02). Roger devices that have “in” dispense type 03. Your licenses let you connect to as many rogers as you like but only pair with one at a time. If you were at an event with dozens of lecture halls, and many participants, each hall having a Roger, you could pair with the Roger upon entering the hall and hear. An unlimited number of people could have paired to that mic. There will be a practical limit in physically being close enough to connect, but that isn’t a license issue.

The fee for the license sure seemed to just be revenue for access to the technology. Now it just seems like an albatross. They are stuck with it and should just bake 03s into all the aids. Have a slot for 02s if you still need to squeeze money out of schools for use of the tech, I suppose?
